The purpose of this position is to provide engineering technical support services to the Facilities Engineering staff under the direction of the Facilities Engineering Department.
Compensation for this position is $20.00/hr. WaterOne's summer internship program runs from May 17, 2027 until August 6, 2027.
Essential Functions

Assist Project Engineers in the design and inspection of production and other facilities. Apply engineering fundamentals and established design practices in assisting to develop and implement project plans. Provide detailed sketches, technical information, and assistance for preparation of engineering drawings for construction or modifications of facilities. Gather information from other utilities, engineering firms, and other resources as assigned. Conduct research to help develop project cost estimates. Inspect construction work to determine compliance with standards of accuracy and quality as directed. Review manufacturer's drawings and manuals for accuracy and compliance with WaterOne specifications. Operate instruments and equipment for surveying and for pressure and flow measurements.
Other Duties
Attend meetings regarding projects as assigned. Write specifications, memos, and letters as assigned. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience
Educational requirement of reaching sophomore status towards degree in engineering, with minimum of 15 credit hours completed of coursework in mathematics and engineering sciences (hydraulics, mechanical systems, concrete and steel design, electrical controls and circuits, and land surveying preferred).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to commit to a 12-week internship program. Demonstrated capability for good judgment, initiative, sound planning and analytical skills. Requires good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Requires the ability to read plans and specifications. Ability to apply applicable safety standards pertaining to engineering and construction work, including, but not limited to, excavation safety, traffic safety, and the use of personal protective equipment. Knowledge and skill in the use of traditional and computerized drafting instruments and equipment, particularly in the use of CAD/GIS (Computer Aided Drafting/Geographic Information Systems). Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Requires good interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communications skills, and good listening skills. Possess a valid driver’s license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards. Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 5 pounds and 10 pounds rarely. This position will occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions. Rarely work inside and outside WaterOne facilities and structures. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat (above 90 degrees) in the summer and cold in the winter (below freezing). Some work may be in non-heated and non-air-conditioned structures. Rarely perform field assignments in poor weather and driving conditions and deal with other hazards of field work. Rarely work at varying heights above 15 feet above the floor. Rarely has toleration of noise levels that are generally minimal but may be excessive for brief periods of time (hearing protection is provided.
The position requires the ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods and to stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary. The role involves frequent use of computers and standard office equipment such as copiers and telephones. Candidates must be able to move through a variety of environments, including elevators, stairways, ramps, and uneven terrain, and must be able to travel between different work locations. Additionally, the position requires wearing personal protective equipment and navigating active construction sites.

The work environment for this position is a typical office setting. The noise level when working in the field and/or plant environment is usually moderate to maximal.
