Position: Facilitator and Outreach Peer Specialist
Salary: $50,000 per year; non-exempt.
Hours: Full-time; 37.5 per week
Locations: Community Outreach within Suffolk County. Office location in Ronkonkoma, NY
Availability: Immediately
Our Facilitator and Outreach Peer Specialists are agency leaders responsible for the facilitation and delivery of MHAW’s 10-week Peer Specialist Training Program. This role supports the Careers in Recovery and Wellness Training Center and Healing Connection Peer Support Services.
This is a highly engaged, fast-paced, and dynamic role requiring strong independent work skills, creativity, and leadership in peer facilitation and outreach. This is a position reserved for trained peer specialists with lived experience in recovery.
Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate the 10-week Peer Specialist Training Course (3 times per week) using an established curriculum
- Utilize the existing training curriculum while incorporating personal expertise, facilitation style, and lived experience to enhance learning
- Support participants in skill-building, engagement, and readiness for peer workforce roles
- Conduct outreach and maintain connections with community partner agencies
- Offer one-to-one mutual support by telephone, online, and in person
- Facilitate group learning, training sessions, and presentations
- Maintain tracking systems, databases, documentation, and training records accurately and consistently
- Assist participants with resume development and job readiness preparation beginning approximately at the 6-week mark of training
- Ensure strong communication via email and digital platforms
Qualifications:
- New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYSCPS-P) preferred; provisional certification required
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead group-based learning environments
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Computer-savvy with the ability to learn and utilize data tracking systems
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Self-motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills required
- Ability to maintain accurate records, tracking systems, and reporting requirements
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal)
- Ability to model trauma-informed, recovery-oriented peer support principles
- Ability to engage participants in meaningful learning experiences
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, peer-led values
- Ability to support workforce development readiness through resume building and professional development
- Flexibility in facilitating in-person and community-based outreach activities
