Job Description

About Psomagen

Psomagen, Inc., founded in 2004 in Rockville, MD, is at the forefront of genetic and genomic testing. The company offers cutting-edge genomic services through next-generation and Sanger sequencing with data analysis services for applications in basic research and clinic diagnostics. The service laboratory has been certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), which demonstrates the highest level of quality and safety in the market.

Listed on the KOSDAQ in July 2020, the company is rapidly expanding its business from B2B to B2C and from Research to Clinical markets. The company has broadened the capabilities in the healthcare space such as at-home kits for analysis of genetic traits and microbiome profiles. With CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratories, the company is looking to further expand service offerings in the clinical laboratory diagnostics market such as a laboratory-developed test (LDT) for COVID-19.

About the role

  • Psomagen is a global genomics and multi-omics service provider specializing in next-generation or sanger sequencing (NGS, CES), single-cell, and proteomics analysis. We provide advanced research and clinical sequencing services to academic, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology clients.
  • We are seeking Laboratory Technicians, Scientists, and Managers who will contribute to the daily operation, optimization, and leadership of our laboratory facilities in Maryland (MD) or Massachusetts (MA). Depending on the role level, responsibilities include performing laboratory workflows, leading project execution, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Candidates should have hands-on experience in molecular biology, sequencing workflows, or biological sample processing, and a strong interest in multi-omics and high-throughput genomic technologies.

What you'll do

1. Experimental Operations

  • Perform a range of molecular biology and genomics techniques including:
    • Biological tissue and blood sample handling
    • DNA/RNA extraction and quantification
    • Gel electrophoresis, PCR/qPCR, and NGS library preparation
    • Sequencing on Illumina, Ultima, PacBio, or 10x Genomics platforms
    • Single-cell assay setup and proteomics sample preparation
  • Operate computer-based laboratory systems (e.g., LIMS, instrument software) and record data with accuracy.
  • Maintain consistent sample tracking, labeling, and data integrity across projects.

2. Laboratory Maintenance & Quality Control

  • Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment performance; perform calibration, troubleshooting, and minor repairs as needed.
  • Manage inventory of reagents and consumables, ensuring readiness for high-throughput operations.
  • Ensure all experimental steps comply with CLIA, CAP, and ISO quality standards.
  • Prepare and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure adherence to laboratory safety guidelines.

3. Workflow Optimization & Troubleshooting

  • Identify and troubleshoot issues with samples, instruments, or reagents to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Project Management, Bioinformatics, and Operations) to streamline experimental pipelines.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of new assays, methods, or automation processes for enhanced throughput and data quality.

4. Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external clients to clarify sample issues, data discrepancies, or project timelines.
  • Train and mentor junior staff on laboratory techniques, data recording, and quality control standards.
  • Participate in inter-departmental meetings to support project execution and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support coordination between MD and MA laboratory teams to maintain consistent SOPs and performance standards.

5. Leadership & Management (Manager-level only)

  • Supervise daily operations of laboratory teams and assign workload based on project priorities.
  • Oversee staffing schedules, including weekend or evening shifts when required.
  • Lead performance evaluations, enforce safety compliance, and manage cross-training to ensure flexibility within the team.
  • Collaborate with senior management to plan resource allocation, project timelines, and capacity expansion strategies.

Qualifications

1. Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Practical experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, NGS library preparation, nucleic acid purification).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and data recording accuracy.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS) and computer-based instrumentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

2. Preferred

  • Prior experience in genomics, sequencing, or multi-omics laboratories.
  • Knowledge of single-cell, spatial transcriptomics, or proteomics workflows.
  • Experience operating Illumina, PacBio, or other sequencing platforms.
  • Understanding of genomics, sequencing technologies, or multi-omics research trends.
