Job Description

Position Summary:
The Oncology Clinical Coordinator (OCC) provides operational leadership to the day-to-day patient care services of the Conway Medical Center (CMC) positioned as a Duke Health affiliate in Oncology and Infusion services at assigned location(s). The OCC oversees and coordinates with full accountability for the clinical services within the medical oncology and infusion departments which consists of the Oncology medical practice and Oncology infusion suite. The OCC communicates and collaborates with other departments such Pharmacy, Patient Access, Conway Physician Group Administration and more for problem identification and resolution. Through the OCC, clinical activities are coordinated with other departments and the OCC will maintain, review, and revise clinical policies and procedures for the department and communicate with staff in order to facilitate compliance with policies and procedures. The OCC will develop and maintain a positive rapport with physicians and administrative staff and generally seek to guide services to “best in practice recognition” under the guidance of Duke Health Oncology Services. The OCC will review and monitor staffing levels, productivity, ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory standards, evaluate the educational and competency needs of staff, and assist with performance evaluations and corrective action management for team members. The OCC will evaluate the clinical practice of specified disciplines and review clinical records to ensure standards of care and quality of services are provided. The OCC will develop and implement performance improvement activities and manage/resolve concerns of personnel, develop objectives and goals, assist with annual budgets, equipment and supply needs.

Additionally, in the early juncture of the program, the OCC will assist with Patient Navigation for Oncology Services. This may include assistance with coordinating patient clinical, financial, and transportation services as well as questions and communications pertaining to aspects of treatment, evaluation, support services and education to patients. The OCC works with at-risk hospital patients and assists them in accessing the hospital’s cancer care delivery system and resources. This will include direct interaction with patients and their families in person, by telephone and/or e-mail. As the program grows the OCC will assess the timing and staffing needs to expand roles within the operation to meet the patient needs. The OCC performs functions as noted above and is fully ready and willing to assist the team in direct nursing services, and other duties as assigned which will cross over into the practice, the infusion center or any needed area of the operation.

Education:

  • Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Masters in Nursing preferred (MSN).

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years specific Oncology Practice and Infusion Center experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous Oncology specific nursing leadership experience required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) required.
  • Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certified by Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) required.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required.

Other:

  • Completion of Duke Health Affiliate training in Oncology, Chemo 101, and other additional competencies required after hire date. (May be required to travel for education).
  • Prior experience on the Cerner EMR platform preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Medium - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear to process instructions and safety code and alarms required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and will be assessed by post offer Occupational Health fit-for-duty review.
