Job Description

Vitesse Systems is looking for a Senior Electromechanical Technician to join the team in Houston, Texas! The Senior Electromechanical Technician requires a strong attention to detail and an aptitude for working with both electronics and mechanical systems as you work with complex electromechanical systems and spaceflight hardware. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Jack or Jill of all trades who is an adaptable self-starter, eager to learn new skills, and take full ownership of responsibilities.

The Role

As a Senior Electromechanical Technician, you will work with a talented multidisciplinary team of engineers to help assemble, test, and troubleshoot cutting edge robotic systems and electromechanical hardware for clients in a wide variety of industries with applications on earth and outer space. A portion of the hardware you will be working with will be used for R&D applications. This means assembly documentation may be sparse, unforeseen issues are likely to emerge, and failures are likely to be encountered during testing. This will require you to be creative, think on your feet, and work closely with engineers to create assembly processes on the fly, and find solutions to issues as they arise so that development can proceed at a rapid pace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex robotic systems and electromechanical hardware
  • Assemble high quality wire harnesses and PCBAs
  • Support qualification and acceptance of new hardware and create supporting documentation in a clear, precise, and complete manner
  • Provide feedback to engineers to improve designs, documentation, and assembly procedures
  • Manage lab space and inventory to ensure efficient assembly and testing of hardware
  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing assignments and efficiently manage workload to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and respond to critical requests
  • Be technically excellent, safety conscious, accountable for your work, and responsible for deadlines
  • Constantly strive to improve your own technical skills, company processes, and be willing to both teach and learn from your peers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience assembling electromechanical hardware
  • Associates degree and 10+ years’ experience assembling electromechanical hardware preferred
  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy
  • Passion for organizing tools, inventory, and equipment in a clean, organized, presentable, and efficient manner
  • Basic computer skills including ability to use Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, email, online meeting tools, and ERP system
  • Ability to understand and interpret basic electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, assembly documentation, hand sketches, and CAD
  • Hands-on experience fabricating and debugging harnesses, electro-mechanical assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies, and test equipment
  • Experience with electromechanical build processes including iron and hot-air soldering; wire crimping and stripping; machine and hand drilling, shaping, cutting, and joining; 3D plastic printing
  • Basic carpentry skills to support construction of mockups and basic test fixtures
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, stand or sit for long periods of time, climb ladders, push, pull, etc.
  • Wire harness routing and integration preferred
  • Spaceflight hardware and avionics assembly experience preferred
  • Certifications or familiarity with NASA STD 8739.4, IPC-620, and J-STD-001 standards preferred
  • Electrical debugging tools including: the use of multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, and network analyzer preferred
  • Manufacturing tools including operation of: CNC, manual mill, lathe, and TIG/MIG welder preferred
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work well on a team and take full responsibility for individual tasks which may be open-ended
