Senior Systems Analyst Programmer (IDMS / COBOL / Mainframe)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Systems Analyst Programmer (IDMS / COBOL / Mainframe) based in United States.

The Senior Systems Analyst Programmer will support mission-critical legacy applications within a large-scale IBM z/OS mainframe environment.
This role combines systems analysis, application development, database expertise, and production support to ensure reliable enterprise operations.
The successful candidate will work extensively with IDMS, COBOL, JCL, and mainframe utilities across batch and online processing environments.
You will analyze business requirements, design technical solutions, develop enhancements, and troubleshoot complex production issues.
The position offers the opportunity to contribute to systems that are essential to day-to-day organizational operations while collaborating with technical teams and business stakeholders.
This is a remote U.S.-based opportunity with occasional onsite work required in the Miami, Florida area.
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced mainframe professional who combines deep technical knowledge with strong analytical and communication skills.

Accountabilities
  • Perform systems analysis, technical design, application development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise mainframe applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and support both batch and online applications using IDMS and COBOL within an IBM z/OS environment.
  • Maintain and enhance IDMS database structures, screen mappings, application logic, and related components.
  • Create, maintain, and manage JCL used for batch processing, job execution, and scheduling.
  • Provide production support for live mainframe applications, investigate incidents, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement controlled fixes.
  • Gather and analyze requirements from business and technical stakeholders and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, end users, and other stakeholders to maintain reliable system performance and service delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain application documentation while ensuring development and support activities follow established standards and procedures.
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex legacy-system challenges and identify practical opportunities for improvement.
  • Support ongoing application reliability and operational continuity within a controlled enterprise environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of recent hands-on experience working with IDMS, COBOL, JCL, and IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
  • At least 5 years of experience in systems analysis, application development, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with IDMS utilities and components, including online and batch processing.
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe job control, JCL, scheduling, batch operations, and production support practices.
  • Experience performing systems analysis and application design for large-scale legacy mainframe systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement appropriate solutions in live enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of application development and maintenance within complex legacy technology environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with IT teams, business stakeholders, and end users.
  • Candidates must be based in the United States and able to travel onsite to Miami, Florida when required.
