The Contract for Organizing Spaceflight Mission Operations and Systems (COSMOS), NASA’s next-generation mission operations contract, has an excellent opportunity for a talented individual to become a part of the Software Configuration Management (SCM) and Integration team. The successful candidate will learn the software production process for the Mission Systems Facilities at NASA Johnson Space Center’s Mission Control Center (MCC), Mission Training Center (MTC), and Space Vehicle Mockup Facility (SVMF) with particular emphasis on training systems in support of NASA's International Space Station and Artemis programs. This position is within the Integration Services Section of the Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Directorate in NASA's Mission Systems Division in Houston, TX. As a member of the SCM and Integration team, the successful candidate will provide control of training load software changes of COSMOS managed Mission Systems Facilities, as well as, maintain the integrity and traceability of the configuration throughout the software life cycle. Integration tasks will also require the successful candidate to interface with both internal and external customers. COSMOS ensures the continuity of critical human spaceflight support by providing mission control services, advanced training systems, and full-scale spacecraft mockups for astronaut preparation and engineering analysis.
Description of Duties
The expectation is for the potential candidate to become the subject matter expert in the areas of training systems (TS) software builds, deployment, and build process maintenance with the expectation of being an SCM lead subject matter expert (SME) for TS Software. The candidate will also pursue integration assignments within the Integration Services department to help achieve department, directorate, and contract goals. The candidate should have a good understanding of the full software development life cycle from planning, design, building, testing, deployment and maintenance.
Successful candidates will:
- Coordinate training load delivery content based on sprint schedules, operational need dates, and training needs
- Creation and maintenance of build and deploy tools
- Maintain process documentation
- Perform script creation and maintenance, as well as process improvement/automation
- Generate and publish training load plans
- Assist with coordination of Software Release Memos
- Possesses strong team-building skills across multi-functional areas that establish a collaborative operational structure including active listening, prompt service and follow-up
- Exhibits proven track record of working under tight deadlines
- High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
- Ability to plan, maintain schedules, and push to meet deadlines

Job Requirements
Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree and 2 to 5 years of general experience.
- Preferred candidates will hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Math or a related area and 2 to 10 years of experience
- Must have 3 years of direct experience compiling and building software applications
- Must have previous experience with Linux shell scripting and Python.
- Must have previous experience with configuration management, Subversion and/or Git
- Must have previous experience with the SDLC
- Familiarity with ServiceNow and Agility
- Must be able to obtain a NASA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Badge for NASA credentials
The individual should possess strong initiative, be a team player (teamwork), be flexible to changing program needs, and possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. The job requires close communication and collaboration with the software development community and other TS load build engineers to successfully implement software life cycle requirements. To be successful, the candidate shall have the ability to work towards deadlines and deliver quality builds on their assignments.
Desired Requirements
- Understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD)
- Experience with Jenkins and GitLab
- Experience with software containers (Docker, Pod), Python virtualization (venv)
- Experience with C/C++
- Experience with Office 365 Tools
- Familiarity with training systems and/or training simulators
- Knowledge of the existing MCC, MTC, or SVMF Mission Systems
- Project management skills
