What You’ll Do
As a Charge Nurse, you’ll report to the Director or Manager. You will provide professional nursing services in the area of assignment, assess the needs of patients, and initiate, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care. The position collaborates with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff to provide compassionate and quality care to patients.
Charge Nurse Job Responsibilities

Identify and address patient concerns promptly; investigate issues and report outcomes.

Manage patient placement and bed utilization efficiently.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Support unit performance improvement and peer review processes.

Interpret and enforce hospital policies and procedures.

Monitor staffing levels, adjust shifts, and maintain productivity goals.

Provide direct patient care and assign tasks based on patient needs and staff skills.

Resolve staffing issues and recommend long-term solutions.

Report supply or service concerns and collaborate on performance reviews.

Train, coach, and validate competencies of new and existing staff.

Develop and implement patient care plans based on nursing diagnoses.

Maintain professional accountability, licensure, and certifications.

Uphold patient rights, privacy, and dignity.

Participate in committees and complete assigned duties and education requirements.

Follow safety protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.

Be available for overtime, on-call duties, and respond within 30 minutes when required.

Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—enable you to interact professionally across all levels.
Required Qualifications

Active unencumbered RN license in the state of Indiana

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required OR certification in a specialty area

One to two years of progressively more responsible nursing experience

Within 5 years of employment as an RN, obtain a BSN or certification in your area of specialty
