We are currently seeking an Industrial Service Technician to add to our growing team.
Position Summary & Objective
The Industrial Service Technician provides responsive service to CAPS Industrial and Commercial customers. This role is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of HVAC/R systems, including both comfort and process equipment in classified and non-classified environments.
Equipment serviced may include refrigeration systems, ice machines, air conditioning units, electric motors, heating systems, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, furnaces, boilers, chillers, VFDs, ventilation systems, economizers, pressurization systems, and humidity control equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems in industrial and commercial environments
- Troubleshoot complex system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
- Calibrate systems to manufacturer specifications and ensure optimal system performance
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding issues, solutions, and recommended repairs
- Document job details including equipment information, test readings, and jobsite photos
- Coordinate with dispatch to manage schedules and ensure timely job completion
- Travel to job sites and maintain communication regarding delays or changes
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support emergency service needs (nights/weekends)
- Maintain company vehicle, including inspections, cleanliness, and reporting mechanical issues
- Ensure vehicle is properly stocked with tools, parts, and safety equipment
- Utilize field service software and maintain accurate service records
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current on industry technologies and best practices
Qualifications & Skills
- Clean background, drug-free, and acceptable driving record
- Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Strong knowledge of industrial HVAC systems including DX, chilled water, pressurization, and scrubber systems
- Ability to diagnose, repair, and service comfort and process HVAC/R systems up to 50 tons
- Experience with chillers, boilers, steam systems, and refrigeration equipment
- Experience with pneumatic and digital control systems
- Familiarity with ice machines and classified or hazardous environments
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards, regulations, and best practices
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on getting the job done right the first time
- Flexible to work varying schedules, including on-call rotations, based on customer demand
- Safety-oriented mindset
- Basic computer skills and ability to work within mobile/app-based service software
Required Certifications
- EPA Universal Certification
- Basic Safety Certification (HASC or ISTC)
- TWIC Card (or ability to obtain)
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (with assistance or equipment as needed)
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
- Ability to push, pull, and maneuver heavy equipment
- Ability to read schematics and technical documentation
- Basic computer skills and ability to work within mobile/app-based software
- Travel is required for this role, with approximately 85% of time spent in the field at customer job sites
- Local travel is routine, with extended travel depending on project and customer needs
- Must be comfortable working in industrial and commercial environments, both indoors and outdoors, and in varying weather conditions
