Job Description

Position Summary

The Caregiver will be trained in all matters of giving care to the residents according to state and federal requirements for Community-Based Residential Facilities (CBRFs). The Caregiver will provide assistance to residents with activities of daily living based on each resident's Individual Service Plan (ISP), as well as assistance with medications, social and recreational activities, meal services, and other tasks as needed. The Caregiver is expected to treat residents, families, and visitors with respect while maintaining a safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment throughout scheduled 12-hour shifts, carrying out all daily responsibilities in a professional manner.

Responsibilities
  • Promote Harvest Home Senior Living Services' mission and philosophy in daily work.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times.
  • Be punctual and maintain reliable attendance for scheduled 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Review resident ISPs as needed to gain and maintain familiarity with residents' needs and preferences.
  • Review the staff communication log at the beginning of each shift for information regarding changes in resident service needs and/or health conditions.
  • Provide personal care services to residents as assigned on ISPs.
  • Assist residents with medications and/or treatments as indicated in the medication administration record, as assigned and permitted by regulation.
  • Respond promptly to resident call systems and requests for assistance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and follow infection control procedures.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to menu plans, recipes, and meal schedules while encouraging resident participation when appropriate.
  • Promote resident participation in scheduled group and individual activities according to ISPs.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, comfortable, and safe environment by providing housekeeping services as needed.
  • Assist with individual and group social/recreational activities and encourage resident participation.
  • Monitor for changes in resident needs, preferences, and health status and report/document changes according to established procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with training.
  • Report any abuse, suspected abuse, or alleged abuse to the appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain alertness, professionalism, and quality resident care throughout the entirety of a 12-hour shift, including effective communication during shift change.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Desire to work with the elderly in a Christian environment that upholds privacy, dignity, choice, independence, and individuality.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and the ability to reliably work 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to organize and utilize time effectively to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Work well with others and function effectively as part of a team.
  • Maintain good grooming and follow dress requirements.
  • Demonstrate a cheerful, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to remain on duty for 12-hour shifts, including prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting residents.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
General Requirements
  1. Free of communicable disease.
  2. Able to physically and mentally perform job duties, as verified by a health screening that includes TB clearance.
  3. Pass criminal record clearance and background checks.
  4. Maintain current CBRF training as required by state and federal regulations.
  5. Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  6. General understanding of the needs of the elderly.
  7. Willingness to learn.
  8. Complete Harvest Home orientation and training program.
Education & Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred. Experience working with elderly individuals is preferred. Must maintain current CBRF certifications, meet all required in-service training requirements, and be able to fulfill the physical and scheduling requirements of 12-hour caregiver shifts.
