As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the modernization, security, and operation of mission-critical technology systems within a complex federal environment. You will provide technical leadership across cross-functional engineering teams, designing scalable solutions that improve reliability, performance, and security. This role combines architecture expertise, systems integration, cloud technologies, and collaborative problem-solving to support important public-sector initiatives. You will work closely with developers, DevOps teams, security specialists, and business stakeholders to translate technical requirements into effective solutions. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to large-scale technology transformation while working in a highly regulated and mission-driven environment.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable system architectures across applications, infrastructure, and technology platforms supporting federal modernization initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, helping establish effective solutions, standards, and best practices.
- Analyze complex system requirements and translate business and mission objectives into secure, reliable, and scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure system performance, availability, and reliability through proactive monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps teams, cybersecurity specialists, architects, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with organizational needs.
- Support system integration efforts across multiple environments and platforms while ensuring interoperability and operational stability.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, system specifications, and implementation guidance.
- Participate in Agile delivery processes, sprint planning, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply secure engineering practices to support resilient systems and compliance with federal technology requirements.
- 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related technical roles.
- Strong experience designing system architectures, distributed systems, and enterprise technology solutions.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, including experience supporting scalable cloud-based environments.
- Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, or similar technologies.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure, networking concepts, system integration, and modern IT environments.
- Experience working with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation methodologies.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, secure system design, and compliance-focused engineering practices.
- Experience working in Agile environments with strong understanding of iterative delivery processes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities with the ability to identify root causes and deliver practical solutions.
- Experience supporting federal government programs, regulated environments, or compliance-driven technology initiatives preferred.
- Familiarity with federal agency technology mandates, authorization processes, or security compliance frameworks is a plus.
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CISSP, or similar credentials are preferred.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive alignment, take accountability, and deliver solutions from design through operational stability.
