Job Description
Firestorm Labs is seeking a hands-on Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to join our team in San Diego. This role owns day-to-day IT systems administration and endpoint security operations, while also serving as the front-line point of contact for facility clearance (FCL) administration, personnel security processing, and classified/CUI handling procedures. You'll work closely with executive leadership and outside compliance support on the company's broader security program.
This is a great fit for someone who wants to build deep, hands-on expertise across both IT security operations and industrial/personnel security compliance at a fast-growing defense manufacturing company, with a clear path to grow as the security function matures.
What You’ll do
IT Security Operations
- Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft Azure Government GCC High, including Entra ID, Intune, Sentinel, and Defender
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and system access in Active Directory and related platforms
- Monitor and respond to alerts in Microsoft Defender and Sentinel to identify deficiencies and vulnerabilities; support POA&M remediation efforts
- Implement and maintain endpoint security, patching, and Intune policies
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues across Windows, MacOS, and Linux environments
- Provision and configure laptops, tablets, and phones, including software installation and onboarding
- Provide first-line technical support to onsite and remote employees, including VPN, DNS, VLAN, and DHCP connectivity issues
- Administer and support collaboration platforms including Microsoft 365, Confluence, Jira, and engineering tools
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets, licenses, and configurations
Facility & Personnel Security Support
- Support facility clearance (FCL) administration and serve as the day-to-day point of contact for DCSA/NISS matters as the company's designated FSO
- Support procedures for classified material and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling and storage in compliance with NISPOM
- Assist with personnel security operations, including background investigation coordination and clearance status tracking
- Participate in the company's insider threat program, including monitoring and reporting
- Support delivery of security education, awareness, and training programs for employees and contractors
- Support incident response coordination for security-related events under the company's established incident response plan
- Assist with security assessments when vetting new tools, services, or vendors
- Support compliance efforts across NIST SP 800-171, DFARS 252.204-7012, CMMC, and related frameworks
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a related field; relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
- U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- 6+ years of experience in an IT support or systems administration role
- 3+ years of experience using Microsoft Entra ID in cloud-only environments, including account setup, groups, and access troubleshooting
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Active Directory (user/group management, policies, and permissions)
- Proficiency supporting Office 365 applications and related cloud services
- Experience supporting MacOS and Linux (Ubuntu preferred) in managed environments
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including VPNs, DNS, VLANs, DHCP
- Clear, professional communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including government points of contact
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification such as Security+, Industrial Security Professional (ISP), Azure Administrator, or equivalent
- Prior experience supporting a Facility Security Officer (FSO) or facility clearance (FCL) administration
- Familiarity with NISPOM, personnel security processing, and classified/CUI handling requirements
- Experience with regulatory frameworks such as CMMC and NIST 800-171
- 4+ years direct experience administering a Microsoft 365 GCC High environment
- Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced defense/aerospace environment
- Active DoD security clearance; Secret or higher

Work Environment
- Position is based onsite at our San Diego, CA headquarters

Compensation
- Base salary: $140,000 - $180,000 base, commensurate with experience
- Equity: Meaningful equity grant in a growth-stage defense technology company
