Job Description

Description:

At Exhibit Concepts, our Detailers help turn creative ideas into physical experiences.

As a CAD Detailer / CAD Technician, you will translate exhibit, environmental, and architectural concepts into accurate technical and fabrication drawings that our teams use to build custom environments for trade shows, museums, educational spaces, branded environments, and other unique projects.

This is not a traditional civil, HVAC, piping, or utility drafting role. We are looking for someone whose CAD experience connects to architectural millwork, cabinetry, custom fabrication, displays, fixtures, interiors, or another environment where drawings become something that is physically built.

If you understand how materials come together, enjoy solving construction and fabrication challenges, and want to see your drawings become real-world environments, we would love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop detailed technical and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Translate creative and design concepts into accurate production-ready drawings.
  • Review sketches, specifications, field dimensions, and related information to determine drafting and construction requirements.
  • Prepare drawings for architectural millwork, cabinetry, displays, fixtures, exhibit components, and other custom-built environments.
  • Create and revise plans, elevations, sections, details, setup drawings, and related project documentation.
  • Apply practical knowledge of materials and construction methods when developing drawings.
  • Coordinate primarily with Project Managers while collaborating with Design, Estimating, Production, Sales, and other project stakeholders.
  • Review and revise drawings based on project requirements, production needs, and internal feedback.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure drawings are accurate, complete, and buildable.
  • Maintain organized CAD files and project documentation.
  • Support both fast-paced trade show projects and longer-term museum, educational, and permanent-environment projects.
  • Continue developing knowledge of Exhibit Concepts' internal building standards, fabrication methods, and evolving CAD technologies.

Technical Environment

The role is currently approximately 80% 2D CAD and 20% 3D, with Exhibit Concepts continuing to expand its 3D capabilities.

AutoCAD proficiency is required.

Technical Experience

  • Architectural millwork
  • Cabinetry and casework
  • Custom displays or fixtures
  • Plywood and common building substrates
  • Acrylics and related fabrication materials
  • Basic construction methods
  • Rough framing and wall/construction concepts
  • Reading and taking field dimensions
  • Drawing components that incorporate lighting, LED, audio, or related elements
  • Basic nesting and programming of fabrication parts and pieces associated with drawn millwork
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Proficiency using AutoCAD in a professional or technical environment
  • Architectural millwork experience
  • Experience producing technical drawings that support fabrication, construction, millwork, cabinetry, fixtures, displays, or another build environment
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches, specifications, dimensions, and design information
  • Understanding of basic materials and construction/fabrication methods
  • Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy
  • Ability to manage priorities and work across multiple projects
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to learn and apply established building and drafting standards

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree or technical training in drafting, CAD, architecture, construction technology, engineering technology, or a related discipline

Our Team

You'll join a collaborative, creative, and flexible team that values problem-solving and thinking beyond the obvious solution.

Detailers work closely with Project Managers and collaborate across multiple departments to turn designs into environments that can actually be fabricated, assembled, installed, and experienced.
