Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst based in South Africa.
This role offers the opportunity to shape how data supports clinical, operational, and strategic decision-making within a rapidly evolving environment. You’ll work at the intersection of advanced analytics, modern data engineering, and business intelligence. A major migration to Snowflake and dbt is creating an opportunity to modernize legacy reporting and establish a more reliable source of truth. You’ll turn complex, messy datasets into clear insights, executive-ready dashboards, and actionable recommendations. The role combines hands-on SQL development with visualization, data quality, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. You’ll work closely with data-focused teams and business leaders in a collaborative, globally distributed environment. Success will come from combining technical rigor with the ability to explain complex findings clearly and confidently.
- Write advanced, optimized SQL queries, joins, stored procedures, triggers, and analytical logic across complex and evolving datasets.
- Partner with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to develop and maintain modular, tested, and well-documented dbt models.
- Support the migration from legacy cube and spreadsheet environments to modern Snowflake-based data architecture.
- Design and deliver executive-ready, interactive dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI, Tableau, or Sigma.
- Establish rigorous data-quality, audit, and testing practices to ensure reporting is accurate and reliable before reaching stakeholders.
- Translate ambiguous business and clinical questions into appropriate data models, analytical approaches, visualizations, and recommendations.
- Produce clear initial outputs—including logic flows, sample datasets, and dashboard concepts—to accelerate stakeholder feedback and decision-making.
- Communicate technical constraints and analytical findings in clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.
- Maintain strong documentation, including data dictionaries, wikis, reporting logic, and other materials that enable the wider team to scale and maintain your work.
- Collaborate across a globally distributed organization, adapting to evolving data infrastructure, priorities, and stakeholder needs.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in business intelligence, data analytics, intelligence reporting, or a related discipline.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including complex queries, joins, window functions, stored procedures, triggers, and work with relational databases.
- Proven experience building intuitive, scalable dashboards and reporting solutions, preferably with Tableau, Power BI, or Sigma.
- Knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS, including experience developing SQL Server cubes and Tabular models.
- Experience with Snowflake and dbt is valuable, or a demonstrated ability and willingness to quickly learn modern cloud data technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to work independently through incomplete or ambiguous requirements.
- A strong commitment to data accuracy, testing, governance, and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts and data constraints into clear business language.
- Comfortable working collaboratively with Data Engineering, Data Science, business stakeholders, and distributed teams.
- Adaptable and proactive, with the confidence to navigate changing systems, evolving priorities, and large-scale technology transitions.
- Tertiary degree or diploma in Statistics, Computer Science, Social Sciences/Humanities, Sociology, Health Sciences, Data Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Business Management, or a related field.
- Comfortable working remotely from South Africa with reliable internet connectivity and backup power.
- Able to work Monday to Friday, generally from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility for meetings outside standard local hours.
- Fully remote position based in South Africa.
- Permanent, full-time employment, five days per week.
- Opportunity to work with modern data technologies including Snowflake, dbt, Power BI, Tableau, and/or Sigma.
- Exposure to a significant data transformation and migration initiative.
- Opportunity to influence how data informs clinical, operational, and strategic decisions.
- Collaborative environment with Data Engineering, Data Science, and business teams.
- Autonomy to explore data, identify opportunities, and bring recommendations forward.
- International working environment with exposure to global teams and stakeholders.
- Equal-opportunity workplace committed to an inclusive and accessible working environment.
