MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Medical Director is a multi-function, executive level position, encompassing responsibilities in medical administration and medical supervision, patient medical services and program development. The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring a high level of quality care and adherence to all applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations governing delivery of substance use disorder treatment services and supportive housing.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participates in the development of medical policies, procedures, and protocols and ensures that they are consistent with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  2. Provide training, supervision and oversight to medical providers including, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other medical providers.
  3. Provide supervision to the Director/Supervisor of Nursing Services.
  4. Provide direct care as necessary.
  5. Monitor care to ensure adherence to medical policies, procedures and protocols.
  6. Ensure medical care is integrated with other care clinical services.
  7. Ensure medical care is coordinated with services delivered by providers at other healthcare organizations.
  8. Ensure medical records are reviewed on a regular basis.
  9. Ensure all required treatment services are available according to medical necessity.
  10. Keeps abreast of new and emerging medical treatments and implements changes as appropriate.
  11. Ensures availability general primary care services and specialty care services to patients which include complete medical assessment, diagnosis and treatment and ongoing monitoring and reassessment of health status.
  12. Ensure that each prospective patients’ healthcare needs are evaluated and may be adequately managed in the residential treatment setting prior to admission, that ancillary withdrawal is managed according to established protocols and that addiction medications are prescribed where medically necessary.
  13. Ensure reporting of communicable diseases and infection in accordance with applicable law.
  14. Ensure facility adherence to infection control policy.
  15. Assists in the development of collaborative relationships with other institutions and agencies such as general or specialty hospitals and nursing homes, health-related facilities, home health agencies, hospital outpatient departments, diagnostic and treatment facilities, laboratories and other healthcare service provider organizations.
  16. Participate in the recruitment and hiring of medical personnel.
  17. Participate in development and implementation of QA and CQI activities.
  18. Advises Senior Management Team on best practices and innovations in the medical treatment of substance use disorders.
  19. Serves as primary clinical lead when the organization participates in academic research studies.
  20. Assures coverage without gaps in the facility medical staff on-call system as required by applicable regulations.
  21. Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Currently licensed and registered as a Physician in the State of New York.
  2. Current DEA Registration, Infection Control Certification and Board Certification in Addiction Medicine or:
  3. Other applicable Board Certification (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine) with (3+) years of post-residency experience in specialty addiction treatment
  4. In good standing with New York State Department of Education Professional Licensing Boards and without any outstanding malpractice judgments.
  5. Familiarity with best practices for prescribing addiction medicine required
  6. Familiarity with best practices related to managing mild and moderate withdrawal symptoms required
  7. At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services.
  8. Board certification in addiction medicine is preferred
  9. This position will require availability as needed including on call responsibilities
