Shop Assistant in MEBANE, North Carolina at TIRES UNLIMITED INC

We are seeking a reliable, hands-on Shop Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Shop Mechanic to support daily shop operations, equipment service, and property maintenance. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the repair and assembly of power equipment, managing inventory, and keeping both the indoor and outdoor shop environments clean and organized.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment & Repair Assistance:
• Assist Shop Mechanic with the maintenance, diagnostic checks, and repair of lawnmowers, zero-turn mowers, handheld power equipment, and other customer machinery.
• Assembly & Unpackaging:
• Uncrate, unpackage, and safely assemble new machines and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Inventory & In-Store Support:
• Assist in the showroom or warehouse by receiving new inventory, stocking shelves, and keeping parts and products organized.
• Property & Shop Maintenance:
• Maintain the outside grounds by mowing the lawn, trimming weeds, and keeping the exterior presentable.
• Clean and organize the internal shop area, including sweeping, putting away tools, and disposing of waste materials.

• Experience: Previous experience working with outdoor power equipment, small engines, or in a mechanical shop environment is highly preferred but not required.
• Technical Skills: Basic familiarity with hand tools and power tools; comfort working around mechanical parts.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs unassisted), stand for long periods, and perform physical labor.
• Ability to work comfortably outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong listening skills and the ability to take direction well from team leads (working directly with Shop Mechanic).
• A safety-first mindset when handling sharp tools, crates, and heavy machinery.
• Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality.
