Job Description

Position Summary
Manages and administers the Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine. Works with other departments to solve problems and to develop new procedures. Responsible for the financial administration of Department grants and institutional funds, including related financial and human resource responsibilities for faculty and fellows.

Essential Duties

  • Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Manages and administers the Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine budgets, including grants, institutional and restricted fund accounts, academic enrichment funds, recruitment funds and contracts. Approves and reviews transactions for accuracy, rectifies errors, and monitors expenditures to ensure budget requirements are met. Collaborates with faculty to develop research grant budgets for grant applications.
  • Trains and advises Programs Coordinators, Faculty, lab personnel, and administrative staff on institutional and funder policies for grants, restricted donations, and institutional funds. This includes training in financial system software, Microsoft Excel, and foundation and federal guidelines.
  • Works with new faculty members to establish their research programs at National Jewish. This includes purchasing start-up capital equipment and supplies, training faculty, post-doctoral fellows and technicians in National Jewish purchasing and fiscal policies and procedures. Arranges for computer hardware and software needs. Works with Facilities Management to plan office renovations and furnishings built in-house.
  • Assists faculty members with human resource activities including hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, merit increases, terminations, and labor distribution adjustments. Completes Personnel Action Notices (PANs) and ensures that labor distributions are correct. Routes PANs to the appropriate departmental and institutional approvers.
  • Coordinates all Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine affiliates, trainees and foreign nationals, including approving the appropriate paperwork for Human Resources and ensuring all institutional policies are adhered to. Manages special projects for the Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine as assigned. Organizes projects and information.
  • Works with faculty and external vendors regarding capital equipment purchases, maintenance of equipment, and accounting issues. Ensures that purchase requisitions for capital equipment are routed appropriately for the required signatures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Healthcare or Business Administration.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years administrative and supervisory experience preferred. Academic or healthcare environment preferred.

Salary Range: $77.572.56 - $102,583.71
