If you are currently pursuing a career in education or hope to become a teacher, this is an especially valuable opportunity. Tutors selected for this program will receive Orton-Gillingham training provided by the District, giving you exposure to a highly structured, evidence-based approach to literacy instruction that can strengthen your instructional skills and future career in education.
Because students will rely on consistent academic support throughout the program, we are looking for tutors who can commit to staying for the entire duration of the program. Consistency is extremely important to student progress, relationship-building, and the overall success of the intervention.

- Complete District-provided Orton-Gillingham training/certification before beginning intervention with students.
- Implement the District's Orton-Gillingham curriculum and instructional strategies with students.
- Use District-approved curriculum, intervention plans, and instructional resources.
- Work with students who may have learning gaps or require additional academic support.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school staff to ensure tutoring aligns with classroom instruction and student academic goals.
- Assist with required program documentation, including student attendance, enrollment records, sign-in/out sheets, and other ELOP documentation.
- Conduct parent outreach when needed, including phone calls and communication regarding schedules, pick-up procedures, and program information.
- Greet students and families and help direct parent questions to the appropriate school or program staff.
- Communicate student concerns or urgent issues to the appropriate ELOP Site Lead or program staff.
- Maintain professionalism and comply with all District policies, procedures, documentation requirements, and student confidentiality standards.
We are looking for tutors who are:
- Passionate about working with elementary-aged students.
- Interested in education, teaching, literacy, child development, or a related career field.
- Excited about receiving Orton-Gillingham training and developing specialized literacy-intervention skills.
- Comfortable supporting students in ELA, Reading, Writing, and Phonics.
- Able to communicate professionally with students, families, teachers, and school staff.
- Organized and comfortable maintaining accurate attendance and program documentation.
- Reliable, punctual, patient, and able to build positive relationships with students.
- Able to work approximately 20 hours per week.
- Able to commit to the entire program.
This role is particularly well suited for aspiring teachers, education majors, substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, instructional aides, recent graduates, and individuals preparing for a career in education.
In addition to gaining meaningful classroom and small-group instructional experience, tutors will receive Orton-Gillingham training through the District, providing valuable exposure to structured literacy and evidence-based reading intervention.
Why Join This Program? This is more than a traditional part-time tutoring position. You'll have the opportunity to develop practical instructional skills, receive specialized literacy training, collaborate with school professionals, and make a meaningful impact on students who need additional academic support.
