Experienced Truck Equipment / Truck Body Installer
Position Summary
Meyer Truck Equipment is seeking an experienced Truck Equipment / Truck Body Installer with a proven background in commercial truck body installation, dump bodies, hoists, hydraulics, PTO systems, and complex truck builds. This position is intended for a seasoned installer who can independently complete high-hour and technically complex builds with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate understands how truck equipment systems work together and has the mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication skills necessary to troubleshoot and complete installations correctly.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Employment Type: Full-time, 8-hour shift
Pay: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour, based on experience
Primary Responsibilities
Truck Body & Heavy Equipment Installation
- Install and complete commercial truck bodies, dump bodies/beds, hoists, platforms, service bodies, cranes, and other heavy-duty truck equipment.
- Complete complex truck builds from start to finish, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural installation, per manufacturer and truck specifications.
- Perform precise drilling, cutting, mounting, modification, and fabrication as required for truck body installations.
- Disassemble, modify, and reassemble truck and equipment components as necessary to complete complex installations.
- Inspect completed installations for proper fit, alignment, function, safety, and workmanship.
- Troubleshoot installation problems and independently determine appropriate solutions.
- Manage high-hour and complex installations while maintaining productivity and quality.
- Work with a variety of commercial truck chassis and configurations.
PTO & Hydraulic Systems
- Install and configure PTO (power take-off) systems and associated hydraulic components.
- Connect and configure hydraulic systems for dump bodies, hoists, snow and ice equipment, and other hydraulic-powered equipment.
- Properly route, secure, and protect hydraulic lines and components.
- Test and troubleshoot PTO and hydraulic systems for proper operation.
- Diagnose leaks, pressure issues, routing problems, and other hydraulic system concerns.
Electrical & Wiring
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and equipment documentation for proper installation of LED lighting, strobe lights, power inverters, etc.
- Properly wire equipment controls, switches, harnesses, and other required electrical components.
- Diagnose electrical problems and make appropriate repairs or modifications.
- Ensure wiring is properly routed, secured, protected, and integrated with the truck's existing electrical system.
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform welding, cutting, drilling, and fabrication required to complete truck body and equipment installations.
- Modify brackets, mounts, frames, and other components as necessary.
- Maintain quality welding and fabrication standards.
- Follow proper procedures for structural modifications and equipment mounting.
- AWS certification is a plus.
Shop Operations & Quality
- Take ownership of assigned builds from initial installation through final inspection.
- Complete work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Work effectively with technicians, service personnel, and other shop employees to complete builds on schedule.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven professional experience installing commercial truck bodies and heavy-duty truck equipment.
- Demonstrated experience installing dump bodies/beds and PTO systems.
- Experience completing complex and high-hour truck builds.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to independently troubleshoot installation problems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagrams.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and their integration with truck equipment.
- Working knowledge of truck electrical systems and equipment wiring.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience; AWS certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy components, equipment, tools, and truck parts.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and shop equipment.
- Ability to work around grease, dirt, oils, hydraulic fluids, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to safely work around commercial trucks, heavy equipment, and elevated or mounted components.
