EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) National Certification; required to maintain PTCB active status.


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Human Resource Certification
  • Project Management Certification
  • Lean/6 Sigma Certification
  • Medication Safety Certification
  • Financial Management Certification
  • Supply Chain Management / Procurement Certification


JOB DESCRIPTION

Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the assigned pharmacy areas, including pharmacy business, purchasing and inventory control, human resources, medication safety and operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Pharmacy Business
  • Supervises pharmacy business functions and related personnel, including:
    • Pharmacy Technician Specialist-Business Coordinator
      • Asset management
      • Records retention
      • Payroll
      • Administrative support
  • Pharmacy Technician Specialist-Patient Assistance Program
    • Coordinates free drug for qualifying patients
  • Pharmacy Technician Specialist-Financial Analyst
    • Develops end of month financial reports
    • Reconciles account receivables
  • Project management
  • Governance Structure management

Purchasing and Inventory Control
  • Supervises drug purchasing and inventory functions and related personnel, including:
    • Pharmacy Technician Specialist-Buyer
      • Purchases approximately 60 million dollars in pharmaceuticals
      • Purchases and inventory drugs according 340B rules
      • Purchases drugs and supplies at GPO contract prices
    • Pharmacy Technologist-Storeroom
      • Receives approximately 60 million dollars in pharmaceutical purchases
      • Stocks pharmaceuticals in related automation or static shelving
      • Maintain inventory in 340B accumulator
  • Manage pharmacy central distribution
  • 340B operational optimization

Human Resources
  • Supervises human resource functions and related personnel, including:
    • Pharmacy Technician Specialist
      • Training and development
      • Orientation
      • Employee files maintenance
  • Recruitment and hiring
  • Related policies and procedures
  • KCO and trusted requestor
  • Resident and student program coordination
  • Continuing Education program coordination

Medication Safety
  • Supervises medication safety functions and related personnel, including:
    • Pharmacy Technician Specialist
      • Sterile processing area (SPA) training
      • USP 797 compliance
      • USP 800 compliance
      • JCAHO and CMS SPA compliance
    • Sr Pharmacy Technologist
      • JCAHO, CMS, and TSBP compliance audits
  • JCAHO, CMS and TSBP compliance
  • QA/PI program development and management
  • Medication Use policy and procedure management

Marginal or Periodic Functions
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Received: Sr Pharmacy Manager

Given: Pharmacy Technician Specialist, Pharmacy Technologist

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
  • Standard hospital pharmacy environment.
  • Working with chemotherapy and bio-hazardous agents
  • Working with public
  • Working weekends and shift rotations
  • May be required to work overtime and extended shifts during emergencies
