The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Fire Prevention Supervisor in the Fire Department. Currently, one (1) full-time vacancy exists for this position. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list for future full-time, part-time and limited-term vacancies in this classification that may occur over the next 12-month period.
The Fire Prevention Supervisor oversees fire prevention activities, including inspections, plan review and prevention investigations to ensure compliance with the California Fire Code and all Federal, State and Local standards. This position leads a team, coordinates programs and works closely with other departments and agencies to mitigate fire risks and promote community safety.
Some duties of this position are as follows:
- Perform site inspections as part of processing potential code violations
- Create and present educational programs to the general public
- Maintain records and files related to inspections
- Prepare written reports and correspondence related to enforcement activities
SALARY RANGE: $100,906.88 - $122,640.80 Annually

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Strong understanding of fire codes, regulations and inspection procedures.
- Expertise in fire inspection techniques and plan review processes.
- Ability to coordinate fire prevention programs with other agencies and departments.
- Capability to analyze and mitigate fire risks effectively and efficiently.
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills to manage and motivate teams.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to educate and engage the community on fire safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to an associate’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in fire prevention, public or business administration or a related field. A bachelor's degree is desirable.
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible fire prevention, inspection and/or fire code enforcement experience. One (1) year of supervisory or management experience is desirable.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of a current, valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Possession of the following California State Fire Marshal Certifications are desirable:
Plan Examiner
Fire Inspector 1
Fire Inspector 2
Incumbents who do not possess these 3 certifications at the time of hire must obtain them as a condition of passing probation and as a condition of continued employment.
