ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN A - INTERNAL BARGAINING UNIT MEMBER POSITION - ENGINEERING in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico at Southwest Range Services

Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as electronic transmitting and receiving equipment (e.g., radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, and navigational aids); personal and mainframe computers and terminals; industrial, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operations

Sets up, operates and maintains a variety of electronic instrumentation equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radia­tion, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Performance test electronic systems and equipment prior to test support to verify operation is within OEM and test support parameters.

Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits. Exercises independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow. Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.

Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. Provides technical guidance to lower level technicians. May be assigned other duties within his/her capabilities. May require some overtime and/or weekend work.

Qualification requirements include demonstration of satisfactorily skill and good performance in the particular field; three years progressive experience in the specific field in addition to graduation from a two year resident course at a technical institute, or a total of six years progressive experience in the specific field. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
