Job Description

Description:

DSRT SURF isn't a traditional workplace, and we're not looking for traditional people.

We're building a first-of-its-kind surf and lifestyle destination in Palm Desert, California — one of the largest wave venues in North America. We're in active launch phase, which means we're onboarding fast, hiring across multiple departments simultaneously, and building HR infrastructure from the ground up. We need someone who can keep up, stay organized, and genuinely cares about the employee experience from day one.

This is a fully on-site role in Palm Desert, California.

Position Overview

The HR Coordinator reports directly to the HR Manager and serves as a key support role across two primary areas: onboarding and HR administration, and recruiting coordination. This person keeps the day-to-day HR operation running smoothly — ensuring new hires are set up for success, candidates move through the pipeline efficiently, and nothing falls through the cracks.

This is a high-volume, fast-moving role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a people-first mindset. The right person is proactive, dependable, and takes genuine pride in creating a seamless experience for both candidates and employees.

What You'll Do

Onboarding and HR Administration

  • Manage the full onboarding process for all new hires — from offer acceptance through first day and beyond
  • Prepare and send new hire paperwork, ensure all documents are completed accurately and on time
  • Set up and maintain employee profiles in Paylocity including onboarding tasks, direct deposit, and I-9 verification
  • Track and follow up on outstanding onboarding items including background checks, NDAs, and signed acknowledgments
  • Coordinate equipment, access, and first-day logistics with relevant department contacts
  • Serve as the first point of contact for new hire questions during the onboarding process
  • Maintain accurate and organized employee records in compliance with company policies and applicable law
  • Support HR compliance tasks including documentation, filing, and audit readiness
  • Assist with benefits administration coordination including enrollment communications and follow-up
  • Help maintain and update HR templates, forms, checklists, and internal documentation

Recruiting Support

  • Post and manage job listings across all active recruiting platforms
  • Review incoming applications and flag qualified candidates for HR Manager review
  • Schedule phone screens, interviews, and onsite meetings across multiple roles and departments
  • Communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process — confirming interviews, sending updates, and maintaining a positive candidate experience
  • Track all active requisitions, candidate pipelines, and hiring activity in the applicant tracking system
  • Send offer letters and pre-employment paperwork upon direction from the HR Manager
  • Support the coordination of onsite interviews including logistics, scheduling, and candidate communication
  • Assist with building and refining screener questions and interview materials as needed
Requirements:

What You Bring

  • 3 to 5 years of HR coordinator, recruiting coordinator, or HR administrative experience
  • Experience with an HRIS platform — Paylocity experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with full-cycle recruiting coordination and onboarding processes
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple open roles and onboarding pipelines simultaneously
  • Excellent written communication skills — you will be the face of HR for many candidates and new hires
  • High attention to detail — HR paperwork and compliance documentation has to be right
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where priorities shift quickly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • A people-first approach — you understand that every candidate and new hire interaction shapes the DSRT SURF experience
  • Knowledge of California employment law basics and I-9 compliance preferred

Who You Are

You are the kind of person who has a system for everything and actually uses it. You don't let things fall through the cracks, you follow up before you have to be asked, and you take pride in the fact that new hires feel welcomed and prepared on day one because of the work you did behind the scenes.

  • Highly organized — you manage competing priorities without dropping the ball
  • Proactive — you anticipate what's coming and get ahead of it
  • A clear communicator — warm, professional, and responsive with candidates and employees
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Discreet — you handle sensitive employee information with care and confidentiality
  • Adaptable — comfortable in an environment that is still being built
  • A team player who genuinely wants HR to run well, not just their piece of it
  • Energized by a fast-moving launch environment, not overwhelmed by it

Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position. The anticipated compensation range for this role is $20.00 – $22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Surf privileges

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a desk and on a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to move throughout the venue and operational areas as needed
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds

Schedule Expectations

This is a full-time position. Core hours align with business operations. Flexibility to occasionally support events, onboarding activities, or peak hiring periods outside standard hours may be required.
