Job Description
Steindler Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pre-Admission team. This role is essential in preparing patients for a safe and successful surgical experience.
The Registered Nurse (RN), Pre-Admission is responsible for assessing and coordinating patient care needs before surgery at the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role utilizes nursing knowledge and clinical judgment to evaluate patient needs and promote positive outcomes throughout the surgical experience and discharge process. The RN collaborates closely with patients, families, physicians, and multidisciplinary team members to gather information, provide education, and coordinate care that supports safe recovery and a seamless patient experience. This is an onsite position, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am -5:00 pm.

Requirements:- Conduct pre-admission assessments by contacting patients prior to surgery to review expectations and answer questions.
- Obtain and document comprehensive medical histories and screenings.
- Utilize the nursing process to identify patient needs, prioritize interventions, and promote readiness for surgery and discharge.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, providers, discharge criteria, and postoperative expectations.
- Implement nursing care standards and carry out physician orders accurately and promptly.
- Assess and address physical, emotional, cognitive, and developmental needs of patients from pediatric through geriatric populations.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, schedulers, and business associates regarding patient needs and concerns.
- Assist with chart preparation to ensure all necessary documentation is completed prior to surgery.
- Anticipate patient care needs throughout the surgical process and support team members as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and patient outcomes.
- Support regulatory certification and accreditation standards.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to staff and participate in orientation and educational activities.
- Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing education and participation in in-services and seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current State of Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience preferred.
- Ambulatory Surgery Center, surgical services, or perioperative experience strongly preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and patient education skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, leadership, staff, patients, and families.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to hear and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
- Visual acuity sufficient to assess patients and review printed and electronic information.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, squat, and sit throughout the workday.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, including assisting patients when necessary.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform clinical procedures and patient care activities.
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
