Manager, Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Engineering based in Canada.

The Manager, Engineering will lead a distributed engineering team responsible for building and evolving foundational technology within a modern network management platform. You will oversee systems that power critical capabilities such as device discovery, identification, and data consolidation, where reliability, scalability, and data quality are essential. The role combines people leadership, technical direction, product partnership, and operational ownership. You will work closely with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to set priorities, navigate tradeoffs, and deliver meaningful customer outcomes. You will also recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineers while strengthening engineering practices across a distributed organization. Accountabilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop an engineering team, fostering accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and a high-performance culture.

  • Own team outcomes and ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality solutions that create meaningful customer and business value.

  • Partner with Product Management to define priorities, evaluate tradeoffs, shape roadmaps, and execute strategic initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and technical decisions clearly.

  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to architectural and system design discussions across the team's technology landscape.

  • Drive engineering excellence through effective development practices, tools, processes, and continuous improvement.

  • Support the evolution of modern technology stacks, including microservices, cloud infrastructure, and contemporary software frameworks.

  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and retain strong engineering talent while maintaining a high-performance standard.

  • Manage and scale distributed engineering teams across multiple locations and time zones.

  • Strengthen agile development practices and improve delivery through CI/CD, automation, and modern software development workflows.

  • Ensure the reliability and scalability of production systems through effective operational practices, including incident and change management.

  • Maintain accountability for the health, performance, and ongoing evolution of foundational systems supporting multiple downstream services.

  • Connect engineering priorities to broader customer and business objectives, ensuring technical investments deliver measurable value.

Requirements
  • Several years of experience leading and developing software engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to build strong, accountable, and high-performing teams.

  • Experience managing distributed engineering teams and contributing to the growth or scaling of engineering organizations.

  • Strong ownership mindset and the ability to make sound decisions, prioritize effectively, and navigate complex technical and organizational tradeoffs.

  • Strong product and business acumen, with the ability to connect engineering initiatives to customer needs and business outcomes.

  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies and modern software development and delivery practices.

  • Experience operating and supporting production systems, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellence.

  • Ability to provide technical leadership and contribute meaningfully to architecture, system design, and technology decisions.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and influencing skills across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Proven ability to recruit, mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent.

  • Comfortable working in a fully distributed environment with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Experience with modern engineering environments involving microservices, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and distributed systems.

  • Experience with technologies such as Go, Java, Scala, React/TypeScript, GraphQL, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, relational databases, NoSQL/document databases, or OLAP systems is an asset.

  • Experience in network management, network monitoring, device management or identification, or network automation is considered a strong asset.
