About the Role

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Loan Officer provides strategic leadership in the development, management, and growth of SSB&T's lending portfolio. Reporting to the Regional President or Branch President if applicable, this role is responsible for originating, structuring, and managing complex commercial and consumer lending relationships while supporting the Bank's credit quality, profitability, and growth objectives.

The SVP, Loan Officer contributes to SSB&T's success by developing strong client relationships, generating quality loan growth, managing credit risk, and delivering tailored lending solutions that support customers, communities, and the Bank's long-term strategic goals. This role collaborates closely with Credit Underwriting, Risk Management, Treasury, and Banking teams to maintain a strong and profitable loan portfolio while upholding sound underwriting and regulatory standards.

Loan Production & Relationship Management

  • Develop, originate, and manage a portfolio of commercial, consumer, agricultural, and/or real estate lending relationships in accordance with Bank policies and strategic objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers through proactive business development efforts.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor by understanding customer needs and providing appropriate lending solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships through additional Bank products and services.
  • Maintain regular contact with borrowers to strengthen relationships and ensure ongoing customer satisfaction.
  • Represent the Bank at community events, networking functions, industry organizations, and business development activities.

Business Development and Portfolio Growth

  • Generate new loan opportunities through referrals, prospecting, community involvement, and relationship-building activities.
  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve loan production, portfolio growth, and profitability objectives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with business owners, real estate professionals, developers, attorneys, accountants, and other centers of influence.
  • Identify opportunities to increase market share and expand the Bank’s lending presence.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that support growth, customer acquisition, and market development.
  • Promote the Bank’s products, services, and community banking commitment throughout the markets served.

Credit Analysis and Loan Structuring

  • Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, collateral, and other financial information to assess creditworthiness.
  • Structure loan requests that appropriately balance customer needs, profitability objectives, and risk management standards.
  • Prepare and present loan requests, credit memoranda, and approval recommendations for management and loan committee review.
  • Evaluate borrower repayment capacity, collateral sufficiency, and overall credit risk.
  • Collaborate with Credit Administration and Loan Operations to facilitate efficient underwriting and loan approval processes.
  • Ensure loan relationships are appropriately structured and documented.

Portfolio Management & Asset Quality

  • Maintain executive accountability for a sound Treasury Solutions control environment.
  • Ensure Treasury Solutions activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, NACHA requirements, SSB&T policies, approval requirements, security standards, and internal controls.
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Fraud, Information Security, Technology, Deposit Operations, and Internal Audit on risk assessments, audits, examinations, issue remediation, and control improvements.
  • Ensure appropriate governance exists for customer eligibility, product approvals, exception management, pricing, implementation, servicing, and periodic reviews.
  • Escalate significant customer, operational, fraud, compliance, technology, or reputational risks to the appropriate leadership.

Compliance and Regulatory Administration

  • Ensure all lending activities comply with Bank policies, lending guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with Fair Lending, CRA, BSA, AML, Flood, HMDA, and other applicable lending regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and complete loan documentation throughout the lending process.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory examinations, loan reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Maintain thorough documentation supporting lending decisions and portfolio management activities.
  • Stay informed regarding industry developments, economic trends, and regulatory changes impacting lending operations.

Leadership and Strategic Initiatives

  • Support implementation of the Bank’s strategic lending and business development goals.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to lending personnel as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of lending policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve lending processes, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives designed to support growth and profitability.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and relationship-focused banking.

Team Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnerships

  • Collaborate with Retail Banking, Treasury Management, Wealth Management, Mortgage, Credit Administration, and Executive Leadership to support customer needs.
  • Partner with branch personnel to identify and develop lending opportunities.
  • Work closely with Loan Operations and Credit Administration to ensure timely loan processing and servicing.
  • Participate in loan committee discussions and organizational planning initiatives.
  • Foster strong working relationships across departments to support customer satisfaction and organizational success.
  • Support special projects and additional assignments as directed.

Performance and Accountability

  • Maintain accountability for loan production, portfolio growth, asset quality, compliance, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Meet established performance expectations related to lending volume, relationship development, portfolio management, and business development activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, sound judgment, analytical ability, and strong relationship management skills.
  • Contribute to the Bank’s success through prudent lending practices, exceptional customer service, and strategic business development.

Candidate Requirements
  • Ability to adapt to growing business needs and structural changes
  • High school diploma or GED (for teller and entry-level positions); bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field for professional roles
  • 8-10 years of experience
  • Relevant licenses where required by law or regulation
  • Familiarity with applicable banking regulations
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with standard office software and ability to learn core banking platforms
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and any required pre-employment screening (drug testing, fingerprinting for FDIC-insured institutions)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree (MBA or related advanced degree) preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive commercial lending, business banking, credit administration, or financial services experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing lending portfolios, relationship managers, commercial banking teams, or credit professionals.
  • Experience leading teams of 3 or more lenders, portfolio managers, credit analysts, or banking professionals preferred.
  • Proven success originating and managing commercial, commercial real estate, agricultural, and business lending relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve loan production, portfolio growth, profitability, and relationship development goals.
  • Strong credit underwriting, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, collateral evaluation, and loan structuring expertise.
  • Experience managing loan portfolios in excess of $50 million-$100 million+ preferred.
  • Proven ability to identify, develop, and maintain relationships with business owners, executives, attorneys, accountants, real estate professionals, and community leaders.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lending regulations, loan documentation requirements, and credit risk management practices.
  • Experience presenting complex credit requests and recommendations to loan committees and executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated success balancing business development objectives with strong credit quality and risk management standards.
  • Experience managing problem loans, loan workouts, and risk mitigation strategies preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial banking products, treasury management services, deposits, and relationship banking strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop lending professionals while fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Experience utilizing loan origination systems, portfolio management tools, CRM platforms, and financial analysis software.
