About the Role

The Loan Officer is responsible for developing and managing customer lending relationships while originating, structuring, and maintaining quality loan portfolios. Reporting to the Regional Presidents or Branch President if applicable, this role works closely with consumers, business owners, borrowers, and internal partners to deliver lending solutions that meet customer needs and support the Bank's growth objectives.

The Loan Officer contributes to SSB&T's success by generating quality loan growth, building strong customer relationships, supporting community development, and maintaining sound credit quality while adhering to Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and prudent lending practices.

Essential Responsibilities

Loan Production & Relationship Management

  • Develop, manage, and expand commercial, consumer, agricultural, mortgage, and real estate lending relationships in accordance with the Bank’s strategic objectives and lending philosophy.
  • Identify opportunities to meet customer borrowing needs through appropriate loan products and comprehensive banking solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, prospects, business partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Conduct business development activities designed to generate new loan opportunities and strengthen existing customer relationships.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and guidance throughout the lending process to support long-term relationship growth and customer satisfaction.

Loan Origination & Credit Evaluation

  • Meet with prospective and existing customers to discuss financing needs and recommend appropriate lending solutions.
  • Gather, review, and analyze financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, collateral information, and supporting documentation required for loan requests.
  • Prepare loan applications, credit presentations, relationship summaries, and supporting documentation for underwriting and approval consideration.
  • Structure loan requests consistent with Bank policy, sound lending practices, and customer needs.
  • Coordinate with Credit Administration, Underwriting, and Loan Operations personnel throughout the approval and closing process.

Portfolio Management & Credit Risk Monitoring

  • Provide strategic oversight for Treasury Solutions products and services, including ACH, wire transfers, remote deposit capture, positive pay, merchant services, commercial cards, sweeps, digital banking, and related capabilities.
  • Approve or recommend product, pricing, service, vendor, and technology strategies within established authority.
  • Partner with the Director, Treasury Solutions and appropriate SSB&T teams to ensure products are implemented, administered, and supported effectively.
  • Monitor service performance, adoption, customer utilization, product profitability, and opportunities for improvement or expansion.
  • Sponsor product enhancements, new capabilities, and cross-functional implementation initiatives.

Loan Documentation, Closing & Funding Coordination

  • Coordinate with Loan Administration, Loan Operations, attorneys, title companies, and other parties to facilitate loan closings and funding activities.
  • Review loan documentation, approval conditions, and closing requirements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure collateral, insurance, title, and documentation requirements are satisfied prior to closing and funding.
  • Assist with resolving documentation exceptions, operational issues, and post-closing follow-up items.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer relationships, loan activity, and lending transactions.

Compliance, Regulatory & Policy Adherence

  • Conduct lending activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Bank policies, and internal controls.
  • Maintain compliance with fair lending requirements, consumer protection regulations, BSA/AML obligations, privacy standards, and other applicable lending regulations.
  • Ensure loan files and supporting documentation meet regulatory, audit, and internal quality standards.
  • Participate in loan reviews, audits, examinations, and compliance assessments as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes, economic conditions, and industry developments impacting lending activities.

Community Involvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Conduct lending activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Bank policies, and internal controls.
  • Maintain compliance with fair lending requirements, consumer protection regulations, BSA/AML obligations, privacy standards, and other applicable lending regulations.
  • Ensure loan files and supporting documentation meet regulatory, audit, and internal quality standards.
  • Participate in loan reviews, audits, examinations, and compliance assessments as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes, economic conditions, and industry developments impacting lending activities.
Performance & Accountability
  • Maintain accountability for loan production, portfolio quality, customer relationship development, and achievement of established goals.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loan growth, profitability, and credit quality metrics to support sustainable portfolio management.
  • Ensure lending activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, adaptability, and leadership while supporting the Bank’s lending strategy and long-term success.

Candidate Requirements
  • Ability to adapt to growing business needs and structural changes
  • High school diploma or GED; bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field for professional roles
  • 2-3 years of experience
  • Relevant licenses where required by law or regulation
  • Familiarity with applicable banking regulations
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with standard office software and ability to learn core banking platforms
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and any required pre-employment screening (drug testing, fingerprinting for FDIC-insured institutions)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to adapt to growing business needs and structural changes
  • High school diploma or GED; bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field for professional roles
