This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Development Engineer I based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative distributed energy and microgrid projects from initial concept through delivery. You will serve as a key technical resource for sales teams, helping translate customer needs into well-defined scopes, designs, estimates, and proposals. The position combines electrical engineering expertise with project development, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with sales, product engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and project management teams to ensure technical requirements are clearly understood. The role also provides exposure to both pre-sale development and post-sale engineering activities. It is well suited to an analytical, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys working in a fast-growing energy environment and contributing to complex power solutions.

Accountabilities
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for sales teams during the pre-sale development of project scope, applications, designs, schedules, risks, and cost estimates.
  • Develop concept drawing packages, including electrical one-line diagrams, site layouts, and other technical documentation required to support project development.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, requests, and technical requirements to determine project scope, schedule, risks, and delivery requirements.
  • Develop accurate project estimates and support proposal preparation, including obtaining and evaluating vendor quotations.
  • Act as a technical liaison between sales, product engineering, manufacturing, project management, vendors, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support turn-key, equipment-only, specialty, and other assigned project opportunities, ensuring solutions meet customer design intent and technical requirements.
  • Remain involved after project award as a technical resource within the project management team, supporting post-sale engineering and project execution.
  • Apply commercial and industrial electrical power systems knowledge to evaluate applications, equipment requirements, distribution systems, and project solutions.
  • Support the design and development of reciprocating engine and power distribution systems, with opportunities to contribute to distributed energy resource and renewable energy applications.
  • Interpret and apply applicable industry codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IBC, and IEEE requirements.
  • Support utility interconnection applications and help manage the technical aspects of the interconnection process.
  • Participate in discussions around new product offerings and remain informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving applications across relevant product lines.
  • Maintain effective project documentation and prioritize multiple pre-sale and post-sale activities through ERP and other business systems.
  • Present technical information and lead customer meetings when required.
  • Participate in company training, industry events, product training, certification programs, and professional development activities.
  • Travel occasionally to customer projects, vendors, job sites, and industry events as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an electrical consultant, application engineer, development engineer, or in a closely related industry role.
  • Strong CAD skills and proficiency with engineering and business software.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop electrical concept drawings, including one-line diagrams and site layouts.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical power systems, application analysis, and estimating.
  • Experience with reciprocating engine systems and power distribution equipment design.
  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical and construction codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IBC, and IEEE.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, and customer requirements and translate them into clear project scopes and technical deliverables.
  • Experience with power-system modeling, including fault, coordination, and arc-flash studies using SKM, is a plus.
  • Understanding of utility interconnection applications and related processes.
  • Distributed energy resource or renewable energy experience is a plus.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a process-oriented approach.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and documentation requirements while effectively prioritizing competing pre-sale and post-sale responsibilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with sales, engineering, manufacturing, project management, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to develop and lead projects and confidently present technical information in customer meetings.
  • Strong commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with industry technologies and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, with local travel expected to remain below 10%.
  • Comfortable working in a professional office environment, including extended periods at a computer and occasional walking through project or shop-floor areas.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage.
  • Competitive 401(k) plan with employer matching.
  • Vacation, company holidays, and paid time off, including personal and sick days.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Account options.
  • Wellness incentive programs.
  • Employee referral program.

  • Opportunities for professional development, industry training, certifications, and career growth.
