TELLER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The Teller is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while accurately and efficiently processing a variety of financial transactions. This role serves as a primary point of contact for customers and plays a key role in maintaining positive customer relationships and ensuring compliance with bank policies and procedures.
Tellers are expected to handle transactions with a high level of accuracy, maintain proper cash controls, and promote the bank’s products and services. Duties may be modified or reassigned at management’s discretion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transaction Processing
- Process customer transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, check cashing, and currency exchanges.
- Assist customers with the purchase of official checks.
- Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and in accordance with bank policies and procedures.
- Complete all required forms and documentation in a consistent and accurate manner.
Cash Handling & Balancing
- Maintain an adequate cash drawer at all times, including buying and selling currency from the main vault.
- Balance cash drawer daily and resolve discrepancies in accordance with bank procedures.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, verifying, and distributing currency.
- Assist with balancing and maintaining ATM cash levels in accordance with bank policy.
Customer Service
- Provide prompt, courteous, and professional service to all customers.
- Answer customer inquiries and resolve routine issues.
- Refer customers to appropriate departments for more complex needs.
- Assist customers with access to safe deposit boxes.
- Promote bank products and services to meet customer needs.
Operational & Compliance Responsibilities
- Follow all opening and closing procedures as assigned.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all customer and bank information.
- Comply with all bank policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and security procedures.
General Responsibilities
- Represent Copiah Bank in a professional manner with customers, coworkers, and the community.
- Work collaboratively to support a safe and productive work environment.
- Complete all required training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic mathematical and cash-handling skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephone systems, 10-key calculator, and office equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in balancing customer service with risk and fraud prevention.
- Ability to interpret and apply bank policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Knowledge of banking operations and teller functions preferred.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous teller or banking experience preferred but not required.
