WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Under the indirect supervision of the Construction Inspection Chief of Parties, act as the Engineer's representative on construction sites by observing, documenting, and reporting contractor activities, progress, and quality of work. Serve as a liaison between the contractor, client owner, and project engineer to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.

Typical projects may include:

  • Water distribution systems
  • Wastewater collection systems
  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Lift stations and pump stations
  • Water wells
  • Elevated and ground storage tanks
  • Roadway, paving, and drainage improvements

Once selected to join our team, you will:

  • Conduct daily inspection preparation, including loading vehicles with necessary supplies and ensuring equipment is functioning properly.
  • Perform daily site visits to monitor contractor activities, installed materials, schedules, construction procedures, and compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Identify and document deficiencies, safety concerns, and quality issues.
  • Attend contractor meetings, including pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and scheduling meetings.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, change orders, schedules, and other contract documents.
  • Complete detailed daily inspection reports, including photographs, measurements, quantities, and written observations.
  • Monitor project completion and assist with punch list development and project closeout activities.
  • Drive company vehicles to and from project sites and company premises.
  • Manage daily work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Construction Inspection team.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of construction inspection practices, methods, and procedures.
  • Understanding of utility infrastructure construction, public works projects, and civil engineering concepts.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.

SKILLS:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions.
  • Proficiency with inspection technology, documentation software, and Microsoft Office applications.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of construction inspection, utility construction, municipal infrastructure, public works, or related experience required.
  • Experience inspecting or constructing water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, lift stations, pump stations, water storage facilities, or treatment plants strongly preferred.
  • Experience with roadway, paving, drainage, or TxDOT projects is a plus.
  • Experience reviewing plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and contractor documentation preferred.
  • Experience working with municipalities, utility districts, MUDs, or public-sector clients preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or related construction training preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

CERTIFICATIONS (Preferred):

  • TxDOT Construction Inspector Certification
  • ACI Field Testing Technician Certification
  • TCEQ Water or Wastewater License
  • Other construction inspection or utility infrastructure certifications

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Full-time position of at least 40 hours per week; overtime may be required.
  • Outside field work required.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Exposure to grassy, rocky, uneven, or steep terrain.
  • Possible exposure to potentially harmful plants and wildlife.
  • Occasional travel requiring long-distance commutes, overnight stays, or temporary relocation near project sites (less than 10%).
  • Initial training period may include increased travel requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift equipment up to 30 pounds.
  • Walking and climbing on rocky, uneven, or steep terrain.
  • Kneeling, stooping, bending, and squatting.
  • General walking, standing, twisting, reaching, and climbing.
  • Ability to safely climb and work at heights above 100 feet.
