Lifeguard in St. Louis, Missouri at Norwood Hills Corporation

Reports to: Aquatics Director

Supervises: No supervisory duties are included in this position.

Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Current lifeguard certification required
• Previous aquatics or pool safety experience preferred
• Private club, hospitality, or recreational facility experience a plus
• Ability to remain alert and respond quickly in emergency situations

• Knowledge of lifeguarding techniques, water rescue procedures, and emergency response
• Strong commitment to member and guest safety at all times
• Ability to enforce pool rules consistently and professionally
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to remain calm and act quickly under pressure
• Dependable, punctual, and professional in appearance and demeanor
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and peak summer periods
• Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergencies

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure aquatic environment for members and guests by monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety regulations, providing emergency assistance when needed, and ensuring compliance with club policies, health standards, and CMAA best practices.

• Monitor pool and aquatic areas to ensure the safety of members and guests
• Enforce all pool rules and regulations in a professional and consistent manner
• Recognize and respond quickly to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid situations
• Administer CPR, first aid, or AED assistance when required
• Maintain constant vigilance and attention while on lifeguard duty
• Assist with opening and closing procedures for the pool facility
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of pool decks, lifeguard stations, and surrounding areas
• Inspect pool equipment and report safety or maintenance concerns to aquatics management
• Provide courteous service and respond to member questions or concerns
• Support aquatics programs, swim lessons, and special events as needed
• Follow all club policies, safety standards, and emergency action plans
• Perform other duties as assigned by aquatics management

• Current Lifeguard Certification required
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
• Ability to maintain certification through required training and testing
• Knowledge of local health department pool safety regulations preferred

• Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods
• Ability to swim, lift, and assist individuals in emergency situations
• Frequent bending, reaching, and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
• Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat and sun exposure
• Exposure to pool chemicals, water, and other outdoor recreational conditions
