Job Summary
The Admissions Clerk performs patient registration and communication duties in the organization. This role ensures timely and accurate patient intake, verifies information, maintains confidentiality, and supports smooth department operations through professional interaction with patients, staff, and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Register all patients and process admissions for both outpatient and inpatient services throughout the organization.
· Collects, posts, and reconciles patient payments, balances cash drawers, and ensures accurate daily financial reporting in compliance with hospital procedures.
· Specifically in ER, monitor ambulance phone, transcribe messages, and relay critical information promptly.
· Ensure the ER admitting office is covered at all times, except in the case of a hospital emergency.
· Update and distribute the daily "On Call" schedule.
· Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
· Initiate overhead code announcements as needed.
· Maintain adequate stock of all required forms and materials.
· Ensure HIPAA compliance and strict patient confidentiality.
· Answer and transfer incoming calls professionally and efficiently.
· Verifying insurance, demographics, and accuracy of all information provided.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable government healthcare programs.
· Ability to understand patient priority, such as ER admissions.
· Provide information to other departments as required.
· Assist with light housekeeping duties within the organization as appropriate.
· Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
· Perform other job duties as assigned.
Requirements:Minimum Requirements
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· 1 year experience in customer service
· Must be skilled with ten key and computer software/applications
Preferred Requirements
· Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration
· 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting
· BLS Certification

Physical Requirements
Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Continuous sitting, walking, and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 50 pounds.
