Job Description
Position Overview
The Quality Electrical Systems (QES) Outside Sales team is responsible for driving business growth by securing new projects and developing new customer relationships. We are seeking a candidate with strong electrical industry knowledge, along with experience and established connections in sectors such as data centers, mining, oil & gas, nuclear, or similar industries.
This role focuses on identifying and developing new business opportunities, managing existing customer accounts, attending industry conferences, and preparing detailed quotation proposals. The position also involves close collaboration with vendors to negotiate pricing and lead times, as well as direct engagement with clients to negotiate project terms and conditions.
Sales representatives will utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, Procore, L2L, and other relevant platforms. This role requires moderate to extensive travel for customer visits, sales calls, industry events, factory acceptance testing, and related activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Present and sell QES products and services to both new and existing clients
- Establish new customer relationships while maintaining and growing existing accounts
- Review customer specifications and drawings to determine appropriate product solutions
- Prepare detailed and accurate quotation proposals based on project specifications and drawing reviews
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain current pricing and lead times for components
- Develop project action plans and schedules to meet customer timelines
- Negotiate project terms and conditions with customers and vendors, including payment terms, liquidated damages, warranties, service requirements, and lead times
- Support project execution post-award by coordinating with engineering and production teams, providing customer updates, and preparing change order quotations
- Prepare presentations, sketches, proposals, and sales contracts for prospective clients
- Maintain and update sales materials while staying current on product knowledge
Identify and resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Participate in daily sales meetings to track projects, monitor performance metrics, and collaborate with team members
- Work with engineering teams to standardize designs and components to improve efficiency and deliver value-driven solutions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in marketing activities, including trade shows, seminars, and outreach events
- Attend product training sessions for components used in QES offerings
- Assist with follow-up on outstanding customer payments
- Coordinate shipping schedules and delivery logistics for equipment and services
- Collaborate with QES Legal to support contract negotiations and, when necessary, settlement discussions
- Provide training and mentorship to new sales team members
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; strong reading, writing, and arithmetic skills essential
- A four-year technical degree (engineering preferred) or 5+ years of experience in the electrical industry required
- Strong professional skills, including proficiency with computer software, cross-functional communication, external partner coordination, and presentation delivery
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including the ability to use formulas and perform pricing calculations
- Strong ability to influence, persuade, and build relationships with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and represent QES positively in all client-facing interactions
- Valid driver’s license required within 60 days of employment and ability to travel domestically, with occasional international travel possible
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and overnight travel as required
Working Conditions
This position operates in a standard office environment with frequent travel required. The role includes regular overnight travel, as well as occasional evening and weekend work associated with customer visits, project demands, and industry events.
