Director Portfolio Management

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director Portfolio Management based in United States.

This leadership role is responsible for building and scaling portfolio management capabilities that enable organizations to prioritize, execute, and optimize complex product and service initiatives.
The position drives portfolio governance, roadmap planning, resource alignment, and operational excellence across cross-functional teams.
You will provide executive visibility into portfolio health, delivery performance, strategic investments, and organizational capacity.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking, analytical expertise, and strong stakeholder management skills to improve decision-making and business outcomes.
This role offers the opportunity to shape enterprise-level processes, enhance product operations, and create scalable frameworks in a regulated healthcare environment.
Working remotely, you will collaborate with product, clinical, laboratory, commercial, and operational teams to accelerate innovation and improve customer impact.

Accountabilities:

The Director Portfolio Management will establish and lead portfolio management practices that improve prioritization, execution, and operational efficiency across the organization. This role will create governance frameworks, optimize processes, and provide leadership teams with actionable insights to support strategic decisions.

  • Lead enterprise portfolio governance processes across product, platform, operational, and optimization initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain a rolling 12–18-month portfolio roadmap aligned with strategic objectives and business priorities.
  • Facilitate roadmap planning, initiative prioritization, and alignment across multiple departments and stakeholders.
  • Develop governance frameworks that provide transparency into priorities, resource utilization, risks, dependencies, and delivery commitments.
  • Partner with executive leadership to evaluate investments, trade-offs, and strategic opportunities.
  • Establish structured processes for initiative intake, evaluation, prioritization, approval, and execution.
  • Build and improve portfolio management frameworks supporting product strategy, operational initiatives, and organizational transformation.
  • Partner with Product Management, Commercial, Clinical, Laboratory, and Operations teams to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Drive operational excellence by improving delivery predictability, execution consistency, and cross-functional accountability.
  • Identify and remove organizational bottlenecks that impact delivery timelines and business performance.
  • Own roadmap planning processes and support capacity planning, resource forecasting, and prioritization decisions.
  • Provide recommendations on initiative sequencing, resource allocation, and execution strategies.
  • Define and maintain portfolio performance metrics, operational KPIs, and executive reporting frameworks.
  • Develop dashboards and analytics processes to monitor portfolio health, delivery performance, launch readiness, operational efficiency, customer outcomes, and business impact.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics teams to automate reporting and generate actionable insights.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in portfolio management, strategic planning, and operational leadership within healthcare, diagnostics, biotechnology, or other regulated environments. They are skilled at managing complex initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders, and creating scalable processes that improve business performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, Engineering, Product Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience working in diagnostics, laboratory services, healthcare, biotechnology, or regulated industries.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, program management, product development, or portfolio governance.
  • Demonstrated experience building complex portfolio views, managing investment decisions, balancing resources, and optimizing delivery priorities.
  • Experience using project and portfolio management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, PKIT, or similar platforms.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to present complex information and recommendations to leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to establish governance frameworks, improve operational processes, and drive organizational alignment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Experience collaborating across product, clinical, laboratory, technical, commercial, and operational teams.
  • Knowledge of regulated healthcare environments, including quality, compliance, and operational requirements.
  • Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, FDA, or similar regulatory frameworks is preferred.
  • PMP certification, MBA, or equivalent advanced qualification is a plus.
  • Experience with change management methodologies is preferred.
