Field-Based - Charlottesville, VA | Richmond, VA | Hampton Roads, VA
PAY & SCHEDULE
Starting Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000 per year
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Hours: 7 AM – 4 PM
Travel Requirement: This is a field-based position that requires regular travel throughout the assigned service area. A company vehicle is provided for business-related travel.
JOB SUMMARY
The Energy Rater is responsible for conducting residential energy inspections, diagnostic testing, and field evaluations in accordance with RESNET standards, company procedures, and applicable energy codes. Duties include collecting and documenting inspection data, performing diagnostic testing, preparing reports, and communicating findings to builders, contractors, and internal team members.
TRAVEL & WORK LOCATION
This is a field-based position serving residential construction sites and homes throughout the Charlottesville, Richmond, and Hampton Roads, Virginia areas. The position requires regular travel between job sites during the work week. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for business-related travel.
Employees should be comfortable traveling throughout the assigned service area and working at a variety of residential construction sites and homes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities outlined below represent the primary duties of this position. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with company procedures, applicable standards, and job requirements, with the level of supervision and support appropriate to the employee’s experience and level of training.
- Conduct residential energy inspections in accordance with RESNET standards and company procedures.Perform diagnostic testing, including blower door, duct leakage, and HVAC airflow testing.Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings.Communicate professionally with builders, contractors, and team members.Maintain inspection tools, testing equipment, and required documentation.Follow all required safety rules, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software as required.Identify and resolve problems effectively while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements described below are representative of the physical abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and use hands to handle tools and testing equipment. The position may require working in confined or limited-access areas, including attics, crawl spaces, mechanical areas, and other residential construction spaces. The employee must be able to use ladders and safely operate common hand and power tools.
The employee must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions as required for residential field inspections.
