This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Metadata and Catalog Specialist based in United States.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in modernizing enterprise data capabilities for a large-scale federal program supporting more than 204 courts across the United States. You will join a Data Modernization and Governance team delivering integrated data governance, engineering, analytics, reporting, and AI/ML capabilities. The role focuses on making enterprise data more discoverable, understandable, trusted, and traceable. You will own metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage capabilities across complex data environments. Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, you will help turn governance policies into practical processes and scalable data management practices. Your work will directly support data quality, compliance, self-service access, and better operational decision-making.
- Metadata Management: Implement, maintain, and continuously improve metadata management, business glossary, data catalog, and data lineage capabilities across enterprise and domain-level data assets.
- Governance Platforms: Configure, administer, and maintain data governance, catalog, metadata, and lineage platforms, including repositories and related tooling.
- Metadata Standards: Establish and maintain metadata standards, structures, naming conventions, definitions, and operational management practices.
- Business Glossary: Develop and maintain enterprise and domain-level business glossaries, ensuring business terms and definitions remain accurate and consistent.
- Metadata Capture: Capture and maintain business, technical, operational, governance, classification, ownership, sensitivity, retention, and other relevant metadata.
- Data Relationships and Lineage: Establish relationships between data assets, business terms, data elements, systems, applications, reports, and data products, while implementing end-to-end lineage across critical data assets and flows.
- Metadata Integration: Integrate metadata from source systems, databases, data warehouses, data lakes, APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, BI platforms, and other data environments.
- Automated Discovery: Configure metadata ingestion, scanning, classification, tagging, discovery, harvesting, and synchronization capabilities, including onboarding new data sources and systems.
- Governance Workflows: Implement ownership, stewardship, certification, approval, and other governance workflows within data management platforms.
- Platform Integrations: Configure integrations between catalog and metadata platforms and other governance, data quality, security, privacy, and enterprise architecture systems.
- Data Quality and Monitoring: Monitor metadata quality and identify gaps, inconsistencies, and stale information that could affect data discovery or governance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Data Governance Analysts, Data Quality Analysts, Data Architects, Data Stewards, security teams, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to maintain trusted enterprise metadata.
- Data Discovery and Reporting: Support authorized users with data discovery and self-service access while developing dashboards and reports that measure catalog adoption, metadata completeness, stewardship, lineage coverage, and governance maturity.
- Documentation and Enablement: Develop procedures, documentation, and operating standards and provide training and support to Data Stewards and business users.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and improve metadata management, data discovery, governance, and catalog capabilities to support ongoing modernization efforts.
- Education and Experience: MA/MS degree with 5+ years of general experience in information systems and 7+ years of specialized experience, or equivalent relevant expertise.
- Enterprise Data Governance: Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise data governance programs and translating governance policies into practical operational processes within delivery environments.
- Regulated Experience governing high-sensitivity or regulated data with clear compliance requirements and expectations.
- Privacy and Access Management: Experience with access management and operationalizing privacy requirements in enterprise data environments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to work with security, governance, engineering, business, and technical teams to implement compliant data-sharing practices.
- Data Management Skills: Strong knowledge of data lakes, data warehousing, enterprise data, metadata management, data catalogs, and data lineage concepts.
- Process and Business Analysis: Strong process mapping, documentation, business analysis, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Stakeholder Management: Excellent facilitation and stakeholder management abilities, with the confidence to work across both business and technical teams.
- Governance Translation: Ability to translate policy and governance requirements into clear, actionable procedures and operational practices.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create training, documentation, and change management materials.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in Federal Government or other regulated environments, enterprise data governance/catalog platforms, and established data governance frameworks or operating models is highly valued.
- Certification: A data management certification is preferred.
- Salary: $128,039–$173,229 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements and may fall outside this range.
- Work Arrangement: Fully remote, with the flexibility to work from any location in the United States.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with no travel required.
