The Underground Utility Pipe Layer plays a critical role in the construction industry by installing and maintaining underground piping systems that are essential for water, gas, sewage, and other utilities. The role involves interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to determine pipe placement and alignment, coordinating with other construction professionals to integrate utility systems seamlessly. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in underground pipe laying or a related construction field.
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with excavation and pipe-laying equipment operation.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in construction safety or pipe laying techniques.
- Experience working with various types of utility pipes such as PVC, ductile iron, or HDPE.
- Basic understanding of soil types and their impact on pipe installation.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery such as backhoes or trenchers.
- First aid and CPR certification.
Responsibilities:
- Excavate trenches and prepare sites for pipe installation using hand tools and heavy machinery.
- Lay, align, and connect pipes according to specifications and blueprints, ensuring proper slope and depth.
- Inspect pipes and joints for leaks or defects and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and pipe-laying machines safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and other construction team members to coordinate project activities and timelines.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory standards to prevent accidents and ensure environmental protection.
- Document work progress and report any issues or deviations to supervisors promptly.
