Inventory Control Technician I
Location: Columbus OH region with headquarters in Mt. Vernon, OH

Position Summary: The Inventory Control Technician at Mercury Fiber is responsible for managing all inventory at a remote Service Center, including receiving shipments, issuing materials to field teams and contractors, and maintaining accurate records in the ERP system. This role supports both the Procurement team and the Service Center General Manager, requiring strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to ensure timely and accurate material availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all inbound and outbound material movement, coordinating with carriers and field teams to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in the ERP system.
- Perform regular cycle counts and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Conduct bench tests on returned equipment to assess condition.
- Coordinate with procurement, other ICTs, and field teams to maintain logistics continuity.
- Support additional logistics tasks such as small-scale purchasing and fleet coordination.
- Contribute to process improvements as needed.
Skills & Requirements:
- Proven ability to manage inventory accurately with minimal supervision.
- Experience receiving shipments and issuing materials to internal teams and external contractors.
- Familiarity with ERP systems for tracking inventory transactions.
- Proficiency in Windows and Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to identify and handle basic network construction materials.
- Effective communicator with field teams, vendors, and support staff.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Capable of safely operating manual and powered material handling equipment.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Light to moderate lifting may be required.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate.
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
- May be required to operate general office equipment including but not limited to copiers, printers.
Duties may also require as needed:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and traverse job sites for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and squat repeatedly.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50–100 lbs (frequently or repetitively depending on task).
- Ability to move equipment up and down stairs when necessary.
- Sufficient hand strength and dexterity to operate hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions year-round, including harsh environments.
- Ability to stand or kneel for long periods.
- Ability to ride in a vehicle for extended periods when traveling to job sites.
- Ability to see the full color spectrum (important for cable/connector identification).
