Job Description

Company Overview
Rex is a privately held ecosystem of entrepreneurial ventures led by Peter Rex, spanning real estate private equity, technology, insurance, and AI. We build businesses and investment platforms that generate both exceptional financial returns and meaningful societal impact. At the core of our strategy is investor engagement: attracting aligned capital partners who share our long-term vision. We are building the most compelling investor-facing ecosystem in the private markets. The role offers exposure to a uniquely diverse platform, combining institutional-quality real estate and high-growth tech ventures, all aligned under a singular mission-driven vision.

About Us
Our mission is to catalyze human flourishing through stewardship, serving people in all nations. We seek a transcendent impact, second to none, crossing geographies and making a permanent mark on history.

We aim to uplift investors, foster flourishing families, create enduring trust, and contribute to a more beautiful world through our investments, products and services, and new ventures.

Our investments are primarily in real estate, with additional allocations to tech, energy, and alternatives, employing a downside-protected, long-term approach to investing. We are grounded in timeless morals and seek to preserve and grow both investor capital and our own.

The Opportunity
Rex is seeking a hands-on Senior Counsel, licensed in Florida, to put legal firepower behind a fast-growing ecosystem across private equity, property management, insurance, and tech. As the platform scales across multiple states, this attorney will own the work that moves the business forward: closings, contracts, filings, compliance, and the judgment calls in between. The mandate is simple. Pull legal work in-house, displace outside spend, and unblock the business at speed. This role is anchored by three core mandates. First, drive capital transactions, including acquisitions, refinancings, and loan modifications and restructurings with debt funds and banks. Second, own high-volume contracting, entity work, multi-state compliance, and operational legal support for property management, construction, and insurance, tightening risk while moving 10x faster. Third, create leverage through litigation strategy, patent and IP execution, and smarter use of outside firms, using them selectively. This attorney turns the law into a tool that serves the business, finding the workaround, the path, and the structure that gets the deal done right. The ideal candidate has 10 to 15+ years of experience spanning top-tier private practice and in-house leadership at a real estate sponsor, private equity fund, or high-growth platform. They are an active member of The Florida Bar, a business leader first and an attorney second, with an owner’s mindset, high urgency, and a bias toward pragmatic execution over legal jargon. They are a problem solver and bottleneck remover who leads with “here’s how we get this done.” This is a leadership seat within the legal function, and it is not for the “don’t do this, don’t do that” lawyer. The mission is non-negotiable. Must be missionary to the bone, driven by transcendent impact, with money following as a byproduct of excellence. Not for mercenaries. Only for missionaries. Fully remote. Florida Bar membership required.

About the Role
Rex is hiring a Senior Counsel to build an in-house legal function that moves at the speed of the business. The platform is active, scaling, and transacting across multiple states, and outside counsel spend is a cost and a speed constraint that this hire exists to reduce.

This role owns outcomes across capital transactions, contracting and entity work, multi-state compliance, and litigation and IP strategy, ensuring urgency, precision, and sound judgment at every stage. You will operate as the connective tissue between leadership, acquisitions, capital markets, property management, construction, insurance, and technology teams, resolving legal questions in real time rather than letting them become bottlenecks.

You will lead the legal side of acquisitions, refinancings, and loan modifications and restructurings, negotiating directly with debt funds, banks, and their counsel. You will build the templates, playbooks, and operating rhythms that make high-volume contracting fast and defensible, and you will manage multi-state compliance across real estate, insurance, and operations as the platform expands. You will decide what stays in-house and what goes to outside firms, and you will direct those firms tightly where they are used.

This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership seat for a lawyer who thinks like an operator. You will push hard, move fast, and find the structure that gets the deal done right while protecting the downside. Must be missionary to the bone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the legal workstream on acquisitions, dispositions, and closings across the real estate platform, from LOI through funding
  • Drive refinancings, loan modifications, restructurings, and workouts with debt funds, banks, agency lenders, and servicers
  • Negotiate and document complex transactions directly, bringing work in-house that has historically gone to outside counsel
  • Own high-volume contracting across property management, construction, insurance, and technology, building templates and playbooks that move 10x faster
  • Manage entity formation, structuring, governance, and corporate housekeeping across funds, operating companies, and special purpose entities
  • Own multi-state regulatory compliance and filings across real estate, property management, construction, and insurance operations
  • Provide fast, pragmatic operational legal support to leadership and business teams, leading with solutions rather than obstacles
  • Set litigation strategy, manage disputes and claims, and direct outside litigation counsel to resolve matters efficiently
  • Execute patent and IP strategy for Rex’s technology ventures, including filings, protection, and licensing
  • Select, manage, and hold outside firms accountable on scope, budget, and outcomes, using them selectively for specialized needs
  • Identify and triage legal and compliance risk across the ecosystem, tightening exposure without slowing the business
  • Track legal spend, matter volume, and cycle times, and report on outside spend displaced and speed gained
  • Build and lead the legal function as the platform scales, including future legal hires as warranted

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 10 to 15+ years of legal experience spanning top-tier private practice and in-house leadership at a real estate sponsor, private equity fund, or high-growth platform
  • Active member in good standing of The Florida Bar
  • Deep experience in commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and closings
  • Proven record negotiating refinancings, loan modifications, restructurings, and workouts with debt funds, banks, and agency lenders
  • Strong command of contracting, entity structuring, and governance for funds and operating companies
  • Working knowledge of multi-state compliance across real estate, property management, construction, and insurance
  • Experience directing litigation strategy and managing outside counsel to cost-effective outcomes
  • Exposure to patent and IP matters for technology products, with the ability to execute or direct filings and protection
  • Track record of displacing outside legal spend by building in-house capability
  • Business leader first and attorney second, with an owner’s mindset, high urgency, and a bias toward pragmatic execution over legal jargon
  • Problem solver and bottleneck remover who leads with “here’s how we get this done” and finds the workaround, the path, and the structure
  • Comfortable operating as a hands-on builder with high autonomy, moving between deal work, systems building, and leadership
  • Mission-driven and deeply aligned with stewardship, investor trust, and the belief that great business can catalyze human flourishing
  • Missionary mindset, driven by transcendent impact, with money as a byproduct of excellence
