Job Description

Position Title: Lead Security Guard

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center

Reports To: Security Officer Manager

The Leadr Security Guard position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-based technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties:

The Lead Security Guard is responsible for the day to day functions of center safety compliance with Job Corps program requirements, corporate guidelines and federal, state, and local regulations; to create and preserve an environment where Center’s staff, students, visitors are safe and well-protected.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Under the leadership of the Security/Safety Manager and the Senior Security Officer, implements security policies, protocols and procedures.
  • Ensures safety and security of students, staff and facilities.
  • Makes physical inspections and security checks of grounds and facility.
  • Reports fires and other adverse conditions and assists in suppressing fires or remedying adverse conditions.
  • Responds to and investigates center intrusion.
  • Controls disturbances and assists staff in de-escalating potentially volatile situations.
  • Ensures the rights of all individuals are protected.
  • Completes required security logs, documents and records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for signing visitors in and out of the center and performing safety checks/inspections of bags and other items.
  • Follows established guidelines and procedures for staff, student and visitors entering and exiting the campus.
  • Completes investigations and documents information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Drives Center vehicles as necessary.
  • Transports students as assigned.
  • Demonstrates helpful, responsible, and caring attitude.
  • Picks up and delivers materials as directed. Reports vehicle repair needs to supervisor.
  • Ensures that all safety procedures are followed by staff, students and visitors.
  • Monitors Students Behavior: Ensures proper conduct of trainees in all areas. Assists staff with behavior problems coordinating referrals to PBSO as required. Creates methods and programs to motivate constructive trainee behavior. Maintains awareness of the individual needs of various minority and cultural groups. Monitors accountability process.

    Credentials:

    Education and Experience

    High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.

    Certifications, Licenses, Registration

    Valid state driver’s license; CPR/First Aid certifications

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
