About This Position
Pharmacy Technicians help licensed Pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients. Technicians refer any questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist or office managers.
Position Responsibilities
Pharmacy Technicians perform duties based on the application of scientific pharmacy principles. Responsibilities of Pharmacy Technicians include, but are not limited to:
Patient Care Specialists rotate weekly between customer service calls and processing prescriptions. Verifies that information on the prescription is complete and accurateEnters data in computer system, recording all the prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions, and disbursementsPrepares insurance claim forms, and labels for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals. Performs general clerical duties, such as answering phones, operating computer, etcEffectively follows workflow procedures with an in-depth understanding of each department for day-to-day coordination and processing of patient medication orders; manages own responsibilities.Actively seeks opportunities to expand clinical, technical and insurance knowledge, leveraging available tools and training resources, to develop the basic drug understanding and technical expertise needed to accurately and more effectively assist patients.Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment settingAdditional Responsibilities
A Pharmacy Technician’s additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Complete required orientation as directed by facilityFollow facility and OSHA and HIPPA safety rules and procedures while on assignmentMaintains an ethical standard and genuine care for the patientFollow facility Unusual Occurrence ProtocolPhysical Demands
Standing or sitting for long periods of timeLifting up to 30 lbs. at any given point with multiple repetitionsVisual Acuity; looking at the computer for an extensive period of timeRequirements
High School Diploma or EquivalentAZ Pharmacy Technician License: RequiredCertification: (PTCB, ExCPT or Grandfathered): upon hire.
