ABOUT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES AND THE STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST POSITION:
iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
The Student Support Specialists offer personalized assistance to students identified for additional support. This assistance includes individual guidance in navigating the curriculum, executing Back on Track Plans, finishing assignments, advocating for extra support, and offering any other academic assistance required, along with fulfilling other responsibilities as required within their contracted hours.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Full time Student Support Specialists: $24.25 per hour
We do participate in CalPERS. Please contact your CalPERS counselor about how employment with iQ Academy, Los Angeles may affect your personal PERS account. Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Overview:

Virtual schoolteachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work with Student Engagement Administrator to support students through: Social emotional learning, 7 mindsets, and engagement initiatives.
• Provide students who are referred for additional support, including direct one on one help in: Navigating curriculum, implementing Back on Track Plans, completing assignments, advocating for additional support, other academic supports as needed.
• Conduct assemblies, small group, and one on one sessions to assist students in state testing preparation and assessment taking strategies.
• Assist in proctoring STAR 360 assessments
• Assist in creation and delivery of professional development
• Assist when requested in encouraging students to access graduation plan.
• Reaching out to community stakeholders LCAP outreach and community involvement.
• Improvement in school initiatives.
• Support school Esports Program.
• Host weekly Continuing Care group sessions to allow students to engage, ask questions, and receive light-touch support
• Maintain detailed documentation on each student.
• Review and analyze data collected during surveys to identify students at risk and offer additional supports.
• Attend meetings, conferences, and trainings, as needed
• Proctor state/federal test, in-person, as assigned.
• Participate in school-wide activities, as assigned
• Other duties, as assigned

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
