Provides Direct Support To: Federal Medical Center (FMC) Devens
Worksite: 42 Patton Road, Ayer, Massachusetts 01432
Duty Hours: Typically between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch; schedule may be adjusted to meet institutional needs. Not to exceed 40 hours per week.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive primary and urgent healthcare services to Adults in Custody (AICs) within a federal correctional healthcare setting. Working in close coordination with the Health Services Administrator, Clinical Director, Medical Officer, and Advanced Practice Practitioners, the NP delivers diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive care consistent with facility policies, professional standards, and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide direct clinical care to AICs, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
Obtain medical histories; perform physical examinations; order, interpret, and act upon laboratory and radiographic studies.
Develop and document evidence-based treatment plans; prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with licensure and formulary guidelines.
Clinically manage injuries (e.g., suturing, splinting, immobilization) and attend to medical emergencies.
Coordinate care and consults with on-site leadership and external providers when clinically indicated.
Document care (progress notes, orders, referrals) clearly and timely in the medical record; recommend clinically necessary outside consultations.
Educate and instruct patients regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and preventive health practices.
Participate in quality, safety, and infection-control practices; adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
Education/Licensure:
Licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in any U.S. state or jurisdiction, active, valid, current, and unrestricted (no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions).
Documentation required: education, current licensure and status, clinical competency, and proof of malpractice insurance.
IV therapy training documentation/certification from one or more of the following: post-graduate level course, credit for previous education, or nontraditional education.
Experience & Skills:
Proficiency with routine office-related duties including computers and word-processing software; ability to type and document efficiently.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary medical team.
Employment History:
No negative employment terminations within the past 36 months prior to contract start.
Population Care:
Demonstrated ability to provide care to an AIC population representing diverse cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Services are provided on-site at FMC Devens during the hours noted above; schedule may be adjusted to meet operational needs.
