About This Position

The Veterans Cemetery Operations Liaison plays a key role in the daily operations of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock, serving as the primary contact for veterans’ families, visitors, funeral homes, and service providers. Under the direction of the Cemetery Director, this position provides administrative and customer support to ensure services are carried out with professionalism, compassion, and accuracy. Duties include answering inquiries, scheduling services, processing documentation, maintaining records, supporting committal services, managing supplies, and coordinating volunteers. The role also assists with budget tasks such as processing invoices, tracking expenses, and supporting monthly reconciliation. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy are essential, along with a strong commitment to public service and teamwork.
  • Coordinate with the Cemetery Director on office management and cemetery administrative functions.
  • Schedule and coordinate burial services and committal ceremonies.
  • Order, receive, inspect, and track headstones, grave markers, and niche covers.
  • Serve as a representative during committal services to ensure dignified and respectful service delivery.
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and supporting the pre-registration process.
  • Training in records management or ability to complete Open Records Management training within 90 days of employment.
  • HIPAA certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Proficiency in cemetery software or ability to complete training within 90 days.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of clerical or customer service experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is preferred.
Bilingual Spanish is preferred
Knowledge of:
  • Office procedures, equipment, and filing systems.
  • Proper English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
Ability to:
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records and files.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compile and organize data for reporting and documentation purposes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Provide compassionate and respectful service to veterans' families and the public.
Skill to:
  • Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Operate office equipment including computer equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 25lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
