The Houseperson is responsible for coordinating and organizing the laundry room cleaning activities in accordance with established brand/hotel guest services and sustainability standards ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Remove dirty linen and towels from departed rooms and drop in laundry chute to be sorted in laundry room.
  • Deliver dirty linens via laundry cart and ‘power tug’ to Shore Hotel for laundering.
  • Deliver laundered linens from Shore Hotel to Ocean View Hotel utilizing laundry cart and ‘power tug’.
  • Sort, count, and pre-treat soiled towels in preparation for laundering.
  • Load and unload washers and dryers.
  • Remove trash from housekeeping carts and dispose of.
  • Assist room attendants by delivering needed supplies to storage rooms and housekeeping carts.
  • Maintain equipment and chemicals as trained.
  • Fold, store, and distribute towels.
  • Assist with other housekeeping tasks in the event of staffing shortages.
  • Assist engineering department in projects as needed.
  • Practice safe work habits and wear protective safety equipment.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area free from unsafe conditions.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Report all unsafe conditions and items to management and security.
  • Follow all Safety and Security policies and procedures.
  • Assist engineering department in projects as needed.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have, as a minimum of 1 year experience, in a similar capacity in a hotel with attention to detail.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:

  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 4 hours).
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis to perform duties.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English (speak, read, write) with guests, co-workers and management to their understanding
  • Ability to exert physical effort consistent with cleaning an industry standard number of rooms per shift (approximately 14-16 standard rooms).
  • Ability to grasp, bend, and stoop; push or pull heavy loads weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Regular and on-time attendance is critical on weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of proper chemical handling
  • Hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week.
