The Staff Accountant is responsible for carrying out the company's financial close, ensuring the accuracy of general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and leading and participating in process improvement activities.

The Staff Accountant performs a wide range of duties wholly assigned to the role, primarily focusing on tax, as well as assisting management with varied tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Tax Director with ensuring relevant federal, state, and local tax returns, and supporting documentation is filed accordingly as well as assisting to manage, timelines for sign off.
  • Involving the closing process: making required adjusting and accrual journal entries, audit ready account analysis and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain accurate financial tax records, including but not limited to-documentation of all paid for taxes and support for any required analysis.
  • Assist with preparing responses to incoming mail from Federal, State, and local jurisdictions.
  • Assist with the management of the sales and use tax systems/processes, including sales tax exemptions.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and use critical thinking and professional judgment
  • Ability to work with and meet strict deadlines
  • Additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or equivalent degrees with financial accounting courses
  • Accounting degree is a plus
  • 1-3 years' experience in accounting, experience with tax accounting a plus
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Financial accounting software knowledge, NetSuite is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office Suite, Excel (intermediate proficiency, familiar with functions such as Vlookup or Pivot Table)
  • Proactive self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment
