Starting Range: $50,607-$75,278 annually.
Salary based on qualifications and experience.
This position qualifies for a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

The City of Chesapeake Department of Public Utilities is looking for a motivated Utility Electronics Technician I to help maintain the electronic, instrumentation, and control systems that keep the City’s sanitary sewer pump stations operating safely and reliably around the clock. Your skills will directly support essential infrastructure that protects public health, the environment, and our community.

This is a hands-on technical career where no two days are exactly the same. You’ll work with a wide range of electronics, instrumentation, controls, automation, and supporting systems while building your technical skills as part of a team responsible for infrastructure Chesapeake depends on every day.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in electronics or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job class requires a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Experience in programming and calibration of water and sewer instrumentation and controls is preferred.
