Senior Financial Analyst

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst based in Canada.

This role provides senior-level financial and accounting support within a national finance function, combining financial reporting, analysis, general accounting, and process improvement. You will support Finance Directors and Senior Finance Managers while providing guidance and technical oversight to a Financial Analyst. The position covers monthly and year-end close activities, financial statements, budgeting, audits, cash and investment analysis, and regulatory reporting. You will also contribute to SAP administration, internal controls, and initiatives that improve financial processes and operating efficiency. Working with corporate services, senior management, auditors, banking partners, and other stakeholders, you will play an important role in maintaining accurate and reliable financial information. This is a full-time remote opportunity for candidates based in Nova Scotia, with occasional on-site attendance in Halifax as required.

Accountabilities:

You will support the day-to-day financial operations of a complex organization while providing analytical expertise, accounting oversight, technical guidance, and continuous improvement support across the finance function.

  • Prepare general accounting entries for monthly and year-end close activities.
  • Prepare working papers and account analyses supporting monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Analyze GIC portfolios and cash reserve accounts and provide relevant updates to finance leadership.
  • Provide financial and analytical support to Finance and other Corporate Services teams.
  • Support the annual budgeting process.
  • Maintain General Ledger master data and reporting within SAP.
  • Create and maintain fixed assets within the SAP fixed asset module.
  • Provide technical support to SAP users for banking, fixed assets, and general ledger functions.
  • Prepare and record monthly vacation accruals.
  • Prepare year-end audit working papers and respond to audit-related requirements.
  • Prepare draft financial statements and related reporting.
  • Prepare consolidated financial and management reports as required.
  • Prepare HST rebate submissions.
  • Prepare T3010 charitable returns for applicable legal entities.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical oversight to the Financial Analyst.
  • Identify, support, and implement process improvements and system changes.
  • Develop initiatives that strengthen internal controls, improve operational efficiency, and safeguard organizational assets.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with corporate services teams and senior management.
  • Work effectively with external stakeholders, including banking institutions, auditors, and pension plan partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure financial and personal information is appropriately protected.
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and collaborative workplace while following applicable policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to an integrated team approach and support organizational objectives and values.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting and financial analysis expertise with advanced technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA, or actively working toward one.
  • Minimum 5 years of general accounting and financial analysis experience.
  • Experience within the not-for-profit sector is a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and BOARD.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and present financial information effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and business requirements.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong commitment to meeting objectives and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required Criminal Records Checks and, where applicable, Vulnerable Sector or Child Abuse Registry checks.
  • Ability to comply with applicable workplace safety requirements and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to perform the physical activities associated with occasional on-site work, including walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and tasks requiring fine hand movements.
