Kitchen Assistant (Summer Position) ! in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia at Kids & Company Ltd

Reporting to the Centre Director, you will be an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the overall management of daily kitchen operations during our busy summer months. This is a temporary 2-month position for July and August, ideal for candidates seeking short-term summer employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily kitchen duties including heating food, preparing vegetables and starches, cutting fruit, portioning meals, dishwashing, and delivering food to classrooms.
• Support the Chef in preparing meals, baking, and snacks, including accommodations for children with special dietary requirements.
• Ensure proper food storage and disposal, maintain temperature logs, and follow all health and safety regulations.
• Wash and sanitize dishware collected from classrooms according to proper procedures.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness by following daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
• Perform other duties as required to support the daycare centre during the summer period.

What You Need

• 1–2 years of experience in a Kitchen Assistant or similar role.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it before or during employment.
• Experience in a daycare or childcare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (if required by location).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Clean criminal record check.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.
• Availability to work Monday to Friday, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, for the full months of July and August.
