Position Title: Nursing Supervisor
Shift : Day Shift

Hours : 7a.-7 p.m.
Compensation: $40.00-$52.00

The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.

Position Purpose:

A Registered Nurse responsible for ensuring the global goals and activities of the organization are being met.This includes but is not limited to directing activities of patient care management and the physical facility according to approved standards, policies, and procedures, during evenings, nights, weekends and holidays in the absence of department manager and directors as well as Executive Leadership.

Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)

  • Assumes overall authority of hospital operations on off shifts, escalates issues to Administrator on Call (AOC) and/or department Manager/Directors as necessary. Prepares and distributes administrative reports electronically which include but are not limited to census, administrative and isolation.
  • Manages available staffing and other resources to provide a safe environment for the patient. Maximizes the abilities of the nursing and support services staff to facilitate quality patient care. Takes corrective action as necessary, escalates and submits written documentation.
  • Supervises and coordinates patient services, equipment and supply use.
  • Reviews patient care staffing schedules and assigns staff according to patient needs and classification guidelines.
  • Communicates information regarding patient care and staff related problems, with appropriate department heads. Addresses aberrant employee behaviors immediately and ensures follow-up through verbal or written communication escalation to Manager/Director.
  • Surveillance in all patient care areas to assess departmental workload and patient throughput. Coordinates patient flow and corresponding patient care staffing to achieve maximum efficiency of nursing resources. Develops and maintains a plan for the coordination of admissions and transfers (bed assignment) throughout the patient care areas.
  • Serves as patient advocate. Responds to patient/family questions and concerns and takes appropriate action on all patient-related incidents/complaints. Utilizes chain-of-command and escalates as required by the situation to appropriate Manager/Director/Vice President.
  • Acts as resource to staff to ensure efficiency of resources, patient satisfaction and quality outcomes including but not limited to attending RRT’s, Code Blues, disaster both internal and external until a command center is established and escalates issues related to environment of care or personnel to appropriate Manager/Director/Vice President.

  • Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital’s confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions with others.
  • Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
  • Participates in staff meetings and other in services, meetings or committees as required.

General Job Requirements (List any required knowledge, skills, experiences or training, including length of time necessary for proficiency, required to perform the job.)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • 3yrs of experience as an RN
  • RN License in the state of IL without disciplinary
  • Active IL BLS
  • Experience with staff scheduling
  • Resourcefulness and ingenuity
